Why would any intelligent person rent movies from iTunes? They're still the only one of the major digital rental services that limits every single rental to 24 hours once a movie has been started. Google, Sony, and Amazon all give you 48-72 hours for most rentals. Save me the Apple fanboy responses.

Well lets think this through logically. If you rent through iTunes, you can view it on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV. Amazon, Google and Sony don't have apps for the Apple TV, so therefore you would have to download it to your iOS device via their app, then stream it to your Apple TV. That is an entirely additional step. Second, when I rent a movie, from whomever I rent it from, I usually finish that movie within 3-4 hours, let alone 24 hours. Who needs 48+ hours for a rented movie? Are you going to watch it 5 times?

Who watches a movie five times? KIDS DO. Know who else? People who share accounts with family members. Rent once, watch numerous times. And if I rent from Google, I can watch it on EVERY iOS device, every TVOS device, every MacOS device, and oh yeah every single other device on the planet that has a youtube app. Ditto Amazon minus the AppleTV.

Oh., crap. Can´t play any matched, uploaded music from the cloud from iTunes 12.6. It skips the entire album. If I try to download an album form the cloud, (again, only matched and uploaded tracks), error 206 shows up. Apparently, the initial upload complete without issues because IOS devices and Apple TV play those albums just fine. , but then this happens on iTunes . Not happening with Apple Music tracks.

Its convenience, plain and simple, Not worth it to me to have multiple devices when 1 "can" do the job. I either plug in a Mac mini or a ATV4 into one of my widescreens and there they stay.

I don't need multiple devices to take advantage of Googles infinitely superior rental options. Every device has a youtube app. All I'm asking for is that Apple tries a little bit to be less of a garbage option and to stop offering the bare minimum at the maximum price.

Sorry to burst your bubble, you rent it from Google you cannot watch it on AppleTV 2/3. So therefore, I could only do it via streaming. Which is far more inconvenient than renting it via iTunes. Again, as I stated, it REQUIRES 3rd party apps, instead of the convenience of iTunes. Did you even read my response before responding? Additionally, I am not a kid, nor do I have kids, so that aspect does not relate. This has nothing to do with fanboyism, it has everything to do with logic.

Thats if you CHOOSE to download the Youtube App. I do not have a Youtube app on my iPhone or iPad because its garbage. I use the browser if I need a youtube video (which I hardly ever use).

I can't believe it took this long. I rented a movie once on my iPhone, and I just assumed it worked this way. Nope!

Apple support was very nice, though, they gave me $5 in credit.

I have an Apple TV 3 and IT WORKS FINE. And lol at your other response. Just because you don't want to download an app doesn't mean the app isn't available. The point remains, in terms of price and time-to-watch, Apple are the absolute worst.

Any intelligent person would think it worked that way too. The fact that it took them years to actually make it work the way it should have been from the start is hilarious inept on their part.

Why did they take that little "x" away from the miniplayer?
It was a quick, convenient way to go back to the full sized iTunes.

The miniplayer just plain sucks...again. Why can't they just leave it alone?

-no need to be as tall as it now is
-small artwork gone
-if you select to show artwork it is way too large
-no single click to show it or not, have to go to a menu to select show/not show
-if you show the artwork, the player moves to where the top edge of the artwork is, rather than it's original position before showing the artwork

and I've only been using it for about 5 minutes.

Update (after 6 minutes): you can make it wider by dragging the left or right edge. Drag any other edge or corner and the artwork and "Up Next/History" slides out.

Exactly. The new Mini Player is already bulky as it is and if you drag the edges to reveal the artwork it just gets way TOO BIG. What the hell, Apple?! Totally defeats the purpose of MINI.

Are there any alternative apps for Mini Player that would support artwork? Or even an app that appears in Menu Bar?

They didn't. Still there. You have to bring your cursor over the miniplayer and it shows up.

You can't compare those. For example icons and other resources in the App take up a lot of space and would have not even been possible in those days.

ProDOS had a GUI, complete with icons and resources.

Wow, some perspective for you ...
So, I should run with 982 MB (expanded) of more sluggish crap?

You're running Windows. Ask yourself that question again.

But I'll bite. I'm a systems administrator. Because Windows Server 2008 R2 is coming up for Extended Life Cycle starting in April, I had to build a new server using Windows Server 2012 R2 for a piece of software that will be moved to that server.

The ISO of the OS install is too big to fit on a DVD. So more "crap" to install on a machine that software that already runs on its previous OSes that had less "crap".

And you're worried about "extra space and sluggish crap". Again, change your perspective.

BL.

Abou time, Apple. Should have been a standard feature years ago, in my opinion.

Exactly! I recently rented Train to Busan because it was .99 cents. Due to my Mini not having two factor authorization on it ( I don't have the latest OS on it ), if I want something I buy it on my iPhone or iPad with 2 factor authorization and it goes to all my devices. Except this rental. It's only on my phone. So if I want to watch it on the Mini or even my old apple tv, I needed to rent it again. If I buy music though or an app, it does go to all devices.

it sounds like interns made these changes who don't really use the program.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to feel that way about a lot of Apple software...and I'm a fanboy!

My hunch is that they've got a bunch of newbie designers working on stuff that don't even know about Apple's history of UI/UX research, let along try to figure out how to apply it.

The only thing saving them, is that in general, it's still better than Windows/Android, as at least there is *some* history of caring about such things lingering (that they've yet to destroy).

At this point, I fully expect that Mac hardware that is more than 2 years old that does not receive a mention of a refresh at the next keynote will be killed off. Selling hardware that is more than 2 years old for the same price it sold for for when it launched is not a consumer-friendly move and it will eventually do serious damage to Apple's computer business if they don't stop it.

Apple is pretty diligent about maintaining price tiers. If they drop the price, that means either they are phasing out that product category altogether, or they believe the entire market for that product category is seeing an overall price shift. They will hold a price for even a product overdue for update, because they do not want the upcoming replacement to be perceived as having an elevated price. I'm not referring to option prices for, say, extra storage cap, which is more dynamic.

Not sure that it's new, looks the same as before. Be sure to drag the edges to resize it. The preview window disappears when you reach a certain threshold.

Just updated and indeed the MiniPlayer window got larger/bigger. Stupid change for no good reason.
