What a night!

The new look will take a few mins to get used to, everytime i go on itunes i get a shock...
ahhh the smell of newness.
This looks like its going to be a great relationship.

Now then, did someone say something about a new ipod?!

I just found out that I don't qualify according to the specifications. My Power Mac is a 450. :(

It's not plastic, the only part that has a "plastic" like look to it is the display window. The brushed metal has been abandoned for a cleaner sexier grey with slight grandient. Personally I love it.

The darker gray part is considered plastic as well....its certainly not metal anymore.

Is there now a setting to remove the 'podcasts' entry in the playlists?
Cause if there isn't i see no reason to download 5.0.

One more vote for fugly, but I suppose I'll get used to it.

Actually there is, if you mean you want to remove Podcasts from the Source bar (left side list). Just go to Parental under Preferences and select the 'Disable Podcasts' checkbox.

Has anyone tried out the Smart Shuffle option (adjust random playback)? Most interested in how that works!

Nested Folders = Big +

So, who wants to estimate how long before a programmer makes a hack to return the brushed look for all the "ARGH! Plastic!" iTunes users?

The grey parts do not look plastic to me, they look well, grey, with a slight gradient. Plastic to me is reflective looking, like the new display window, the rest just looks like clean grey gradients, like the type you find in nice CSS sites.

Anyway, plastic or not, I love the look, it's sleek and sexy.

Still no gapless playback??

I've said this many times before, but it always bears repeating...

This is really starting tp p*** me off. I browsed the new iTunes pages at apple.com and still found no mention of gapless playback. Apple doesn't freaking care. It's pathetic. This is a feature that should have been in iTunes 2 at the latest so that those of us who really care about our music can enjoy albums without jarring gaps of silence between tracks. Now we have iTunes 5, and presumably it still isn't there.

What about when you said the Apple employees working on iTunes/iPod were all music lovers, Steve? Sounds like a lie to me. Nothing but empty hype. People who really care about music would not stand for such shoddy playback.

We all love to trumpet the fact that Apple is the company that pays attention to detail. I call BS in this case. This is one detail that's been glaringly neglected time and time again. Surely one Apple engineer realizes this is a problem and would like to fix it? It's not that difficult - numerous solutions exist. If Winamp can do it, why not iTunes? And don't get me started on iPod...

I'll go ahead and give it a try (nothing keeping me on 4.9), but I have zero hope that it was added and simply not mentioned. Apple does not always pay attention to detail - in the case of their music products they seem to only pay attention to what's hip or cool. I'm getting sick of it.

If any competitor's product even approached the ease of use and integration between iTunes and iPod, I'd jump ship in a second and replace my stolen iPod with something else. As it is, I keep waiting for the new generation of iPod that won't mangle my favorite albums. Seems it won't happen any time soon.

And before anyone replies, the following are not acceptable solutions:
  • Cross-fading
  • Ripping a whole CD as one big track

If a 20-year-old CD player can play without gaps and skip tracks, I want my state of the art jukebox software and device to do it too. Is that really too much to ask?

Unfortunately the masses don't care (they just want to shuffle), so Apple's ears are (tone) deaf to this request. What about the details, Apple?

</rant>

There, that felt good. :D

I really like the new style. They must have changed the Library file structure or something as when I loaded iTunes for the first time it took a few minutes to update everything.

I was going to buy one of the new Harry Potter audiobooks but on the UK store - the newer ones are EXPENSIVE! £50.95 for the Order of the Phoenix! Philosophers stone is only £17.95 though, more on par with other audiobooks in the store.

There is a 'disable podcasts' tick box in parental section of the preferences, dunno how it works as I like my bbc podcasts :)

Digging in the iTunes app package (already)

Howdy pals!

First off, I loved the brushed aluminum look... not so hot about the plasticy look. If Apple is migrating away from the AL look, does this mean the next PowerBooks will be non-metal finish?? :(

Next up!! I was curious if there were any hidden info-nuggets buried in the package contents. What I found interesting was an icon called "iTunes-mpeg4p.icns" which, judging by the little lock on the icon, alludes to a protected mpeg4 file. Hmmmm. There's also an icon for Movies ("iTunes-movie.icns") although it may have been there before.

Anyway, the MPEG4P gets me excited about possible downloadable movies. Any comments about this?

Where the hell is the Hogwarts iPod for the uk store??? C'mon Joanne look after your fellow country-people! :)

update with installer:
if you encounter a 1607 issue like i did, simply reboot the machine and try to reinstall again. An option for me came up to repair the install (which i did) and it worked flawlessly. Now that being said...

FEH!!!!!!!!!!!

What a horrible look. It is hideous. everything is all square and unattractive, at least in the windows version. I wish i was on a mac to at least ease some of the pain :(
