Are you running Leopard or Snow Leopard with the built-in firewall turned on? If no, then that's why you have never seen these messages.

Hooray! I thought I was the only one with this problem. I got the usual "we have never heard of this problem before" script from Applecare. Sometimes I wonder if it really is worthwhile paying for that service.

So reinstalling iTunes is the only way of fixing this problem? Seems a bit drastic....

Had the same problem prior to 10.6.4. Applecare suggested a couple options. One was an iTunes reinstall. And it was the only option that worked.

I think the artwork in the grid view has changed. If I recall correctly, all of the previous icons for artwork were square with black bars at the sides or tops when using odd shaped album art. Now the icons are sized to the odd shaped artwork (like cassette covers).

I never noticed that with album artwork, only app icons. In any case, the dark background works properly on both now.

The fact that the drive no longer has to audibly chug while it reads thumbnails in grid views is enough reason alone to update to 9.2.

One odd thing I just noticed though is that is that only the Album grid view displays artwork with squares. The other views have rounded corners. I don't recall if 9.1 did that.

Scrolling through a lot of Apps isn't as slick as scrolling through Album Artwork.
Populating the App artwork when iTunes is first loaded is slow and it doesn't seem to cache as much of it meaning that you'll still see some blank artwork when scrolling until it redraws it.

Faster Backups!

"Faster back-ups while syncing an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4"

I'm looking forward to putting this to the test. My backups have been painfully slow for the last couple years. Maybe they finally fixed that? We'll see!

+1

Scrolling through album, TV and movie artwork is much improved though.

I did find one issue when using the iTunes visualizer fullscreen - the now playing message shows the song that has just finished. This doesn't seem to happen when running the visualizer windowed.

I am trying to update iTunes through software update, and now the software update is hanging any time I try to do it. When I go to Software Update, the window shows up fine showing what I need to update, but when I click "Install," the update hangs until I have to force-quit it. Any ideas on how I could fix this? Everything I can find on the web is for older versions of OSX.

if your windows 7 pc is crashing, you're doing something wrong. Microsoft does not make inherently buggy software. You, THE USER, is at fault. I have serviced countless PCs with Windows on it, and the only times when it has crashed is due to user error. The USER is mucking things up.

So if all of those pesky people who actually use computers just didn't use Microsoft's software, Microsoft's software would work like a charm?

I think he's referring to the **** you're not MEANT to download, "click here for free crap" and oh my goodness another spyware program installed.

9/10 its commonly that. look after a pc, get the right gear and someone with half a brain and there's hardly any problems. i once worked with standard consumer stuff you see everywhere, the only true problem we had that wasn't virus, user or spyware related was windows xp the very first day it came out. some "cool kid" (we all know them) wanted it first day and complained when it had little niggles. *shakes head*

(mind you, i left the business before vista came out. this was probably a good thing...)

i hope with this update and iOS4, it fixes the album art issue I am having.

ever since using genius mixes, it messed up the album art in some of my songs. It didn't change them, since each song has the original album art, it just doesn't display the right one on my iphone.

sorry to distract from the platform war

Can anyone comment on the sync speed? I'm going from a 8GB 3G to a 16GB 4 soon and I'm already bracing for the pain of doubled sync times.

Windows is good. it's all the crap OEMs pre-load on computers. like trial versions of 20 different software packages that all flash boxes to buy it all the time.

if they shipped a simple Windows install like Apple does with Mac's and OS X installs then there would be less problems

It now plays some HD mp4s that it was struggling with on my macbook, i had to watch them in quicktime before.

The "Now Playing" option for album artwork no longer sticks for me. It reverts to "Selected Item" if, while playing a song, I select anything else.

This is new behavior in v9.2.
