Hmmm Now i wonder why only users running iTunes on Windows get more crashes....

Seriously, you think an Apple computer is overpriced.... you get what you pay for. I can count the times my Macbook pro really froze up and crashed with fingers to spare (for the last 2 years since June 2008). I do everything on my macbook pro from running a web/php server, building websites, writing iPhone, Java, python software, ssh, sftp, listening to songs, recording my songs (with garage band) with a firewire mixer, cut movies with iMovie, simple photo processing with iPhoto, and the list goes on.

sure i am not saying windows users can't do that, in fact everything you can do on a mac, you can do on a windows machine, but why does my windows 7 machine constantly crash?

Windows Fan boys would say
- "maybe you don't defragment your harddrive" well i don't have to do it on a mac.
- "maybe you have a virus", same deal, don't need to worry (and it is not because no one uses OSX..... BSD based people?"
- "maybe you have a bad setup with a poor windows performance index" wow so in order to run windows like M$ want you to, you buy more stuff
- "maybe you have too much software opened" uh, last time i counted i had 5 safari windows opened with 4-6 tabs each, photoshop, illustrator, mail, itunes, skype, aMSN, iChat.......

so for you to just say "its over priced and call you when Apple let you sawp in new parts...." sure, keep doing it the old way and think that a computer only last 2-3 years.... cuz most macs i work on can go 4-5 easy......
I got more than I paid since my computer is 2 years old now and still running strong, I know from my past experience that a 2 year old PPC laptop will NOT run like it was just off a store shelf.

(oh btw, if u haven't noticed, aside from my hobbies, i am a Software Developer" but that doesn't mean i want to spend my weeknights and weekends hunting down viruses, reformatting computers, reinstalling windows, and banging my head on the keyboard cuz i constantly see BSODs....)

Windows, or OSX it's not the OS that screws up the computer it's the user and poorly written software. People say Vista sucked I never had a crash on it in 2 years and that's using the 64-bit version. I say give a computer to an idiot and he will screw it up, I had a friend screw up a Mac in a month from the crap he downloaded. So Windows or Mac use what makes you happy, or which one you need, and shut the frak up both are good.

Not going to update in fear of my 3G going full retard with the iPhone 4 next week. Once iPhone 4 is in my hands, ill upgrade.

Much faster launch for me - one bounce as opposed to 4 or 5 (MBP 2009)

Do you have a SSD? 5400rpm HDD, 2010 MBP here. About 10 bounces. Ridiculous. 3 bounces on subsequent restarts.

But, music grid view scrolling is finally smooth. So lovely. Yet it should have been this way all along. I like that you can adjust the grid size now.

Syncing appears slow as ever though. iTunes Store scrolling is still stuttery. App section still needs to "build" the icons anew every time you select it on a new iTunes launch.

Still, some solid improvements around, making it worthwhile. Though I do look hope for an appearance overhaul soon. As of now, oddily, Microsoft's Zune is the most attractive music program, and just simply one of the best looking apps around, though functionally clumsy in some ways. Tried switching to it on Windows, but opted to go back to iTunes and Winamp.

iTunes is a very high-profile brand, you are right. But is it well loved?

Except with names, it’s not ultimately about “love” it’s about how much the brand is worth and how recognizable it is. When people want to associate music with a brand, you think of iTunes just like when you think MP3 player, you think of iPod. Apple isn’t going to abandon that much reputation unless it has such an overwhelmingly negative response that it starts to harm them.

iTunes has such high recognition factor that there is just no need to change it because of something as petty and minor as accuracy. It’s wildly successful to the point that renaming it and re-estbilishing brand identity can harm it in the long run.

Lots of names that we recognize have little to do with accuracy in it’s description. That doesn’t matter as long as people know what it is and you can market that.

Non iPhone 4 enhancements

Are there any enhancements that don't have to do with the new iPhone in iTunes? Can't get one quite yet in Canada.

On another note, I think it's high time Apple changed the iTunes icon. I can't remember the last time I played a CD. They could just make it a circle or something, but I'd prefer a complete revamp. It's time.

They are books not music CDs

It really kills me that Apple did not update the tag fields for ebooks. I hate when I view the info on a book it refers to the Artist instead of the Author. There are fields that make no sense such as disc and track, and ones that are missing like series. It is fairly minor (although very annoying), but Apple used to be better about the details.

If you are constantly seeing BSODs on a "modern" version of windows (XP forward), in my observations you need to stop downloading virus-laden porn!

No? Remember the iPod mini? It was their number one selling iPod when they ditched the name and rebranded the new version as the Nano.
But did they really rename it?

First of all, both the Nano and the Mini are iPods - so as long as they are being called iPods, they're good on the name recognition front. Second, wasn't there a lot of changes to how it was made/style/internal parts? IIRC, wasn't the Nano the first one they put flash memory in as the storage medium instead of a hard drive?

I think you are being to broad with this. Some things will cause crashes not because they are poorly written but because of simple errors hidden in the code. Having an error/bug does not mean something was poorly written. And sometimes the issue IS the OS - although that does tend to be a minority.

Noticed a performance issue that might be new to this iTunes version. In playlist mode, in Cover Flow view, when you navigate through tracks in the playlist with the keyboard, the album art in Cover Flow will shift in sync with the track you choose, but now when it shifts, it's very stuttery. It appears possibly more pronounced when the Genius sidebar is open.

New Feature?

I've never seen this before...

It started searching for the missing files in my library.

Then this appeared once it was finished.

Has this new feature been covered yet?

I just clicked on my iPhone and saw this at the bottom of the screen....

(new feature highlighted in yellow)

I think the artwork in the grid view has changed. If I recall correctly, all of the previous icons for artwork were square with black bars at the sides or tops when using odd shaped album art. Now the icons are sized to the odd shaped artwork (like cassette covers).

On another note, I have been unable to change the album artwork on the new iTunes. When I try, I just defaults to whatever I had it originally set to.

Nice speed up with album art. Hopefully we'll finally get that overhaul we've been looking for with iTunes 10/X.

Releasing 4.0 2 days before 600 000 people try to activate their iphone 4's is a bad idea.

They should release it 4 days ahead of time to give the servers a break and distribute the load.

In fact, what they should do is make a torrent of it, and let it spread like that. Let itunes find the package locally, verify it and then incorporate it. I'm presuming 4.0 is not part of itunes 9.2.

Question: When u plug in a new iphone 4, do you tell it to 'restore' itself from your old iphone backup? Or do u start from scratch and manually copy over apps/music/contacts etc?

I'm worried about a defective backup/corrupt OS files going onto the new phone.

if your windows 7 pc is crashing, you're doing something wrong. Microsoft does not make inherently buggy software. You, THE USER, is at fault. I have serviced countless PCs with Windows on it, and the only times when it has crashed is due to user error. The USER is mucking things up.

That's just one side of the Moon. My experience is a bit different. For example WHQL drivers crash my system almost every week and I work not play with it. I have a setup that I need with a backup and work on it. I install updates only if I'm sure there will be no problems. I'm speaking about Windows 7 here. Snow Leopard hasn't crashed once since I got it.

Please agree that Windows is way easier to screw than Mac OS X.
