-I restored my AppleUSBMultitouch.kext back to the default 10.5.6 prior to installing 10.5.7. IT looks like it has an incremental update (has the number changed). I wonder of the four finger gesture hack still works?

I didn't restore mine to the default version before updating. When I updated it automatically removed the 4-finger gestures.

This page has instructions on how to do the 4-finger hack, although it may not work on 10.5.7. I'm going to wait for someone else to try it first.

ive gotten that several times, im on like my 6th try right now

This is more than likely the cause for the bandwidth problems.

I gave it 3 attempts and you 6, and I can imagine that this is quite common, which equates to a modest increase in bandwidth wasting.

As soon as they identify the package issue, and people are getting the update right on the first download, I am sure all will return to normal.

So ya'll can cancel or at least postpone the "apple, server, bandwidth, hate" posts. ;-)

im currently at about 70 mb downloaded and it keeps going between 4 hours to completion and 33 hours, this is crazy:confused:

Went to Apple Downloads as always. Approximate 15 minute download of combo-update. Installed. Double-boot. Safari 4 Beta previously installed. No issues here, MacBook Pro Santa Rosa. Snappy!

Things seem better. I'm seeing the beachball more often, but oddly enough, things seem to load faster. It's a bit weird, but whatever.

If you find yourself in a loop after restarting (blue screen, the little loading circle on the bottom keeps appearing and re-appearing), turn your Mac off and turn it back on again. The normal installation should continue. It will restart several times and it should eventually load up Leopard with it updated to 10.5.7.

If you have problems downloading the update, download the update from apple's website. The servers via software update are being hammered right now.

Unfortunately, the safari 4.0 update seems to download really slow and it looks like it's only available via software update.

I've noticed that some people have said that the fast power switching is back in the menu bar. I upgraded to 10.5.7 but I am lacking that option. I'm going to try reinstalling the combo update. Hopefully that works.

Yah, I know how to do it - I can edit the info.plist myself, but I might wait a bit.

Installed and got stuck on a blue screen. Every few seconds a loading wheel would pop up but that would repeat over and over and it wouldn't go anywhere. I powered off my 17" MBP unibody and tried again. Same thing. The third time I got the Leopard background with a loading wheel that spun a few times, then the computer restarted itself.

Finally, I am able to log in. Hopefully this is stable.

errors ughhh digital signature error??

I keep getting some DIGITAL SIGNATURE from Apple error...ughh..forget it for now. I wonder if Apple knows about this.

The update doesn't seem to be all that anyways.

I see that some of you are already having this problem too.

Some of you might want to wait on this.. Theres a lot of different problems with it. Either downloading it in the first place, or with installing it, or trying to apply other updates after installing it.
Both my Macs locked up part way through the initial reboot and had to be force shut down. And even then, neither of them started up cleanly afterwards.

And thats just the short of it..

I installed the combo update and I don't have the fast power switching.

I had to restart the update for Safari like 5 times, but each time it added up a little more and finally it was finished. So don't give up, there are probably just a LOT of people downloading at the same time.

Downloaded the 10.5.7 Combo Update direct from Apple's support website and have installed on 3 Macs with absolutely no issues here.

If anyone is using OS X with TV or HDMI connection, there is a bug in the update that doesn't allow the native resolution of the display. Temporary solution is to use switchresx.

Upgraded my 06 mac pro. no problems. I did notice a faster gui response, sort of like thing snap on the screen faster I guess you could say it seems more snappier?

I've been having some issues with OSX recently (sluggish performance, crashes). Going to do the combo update this time.

Only took about 10 minutes to download. Haven't seen the beach ball yet, and am noticing a slight performance gain. I did find myself in a loop (bluescreen and loading circle) like Fli said, but after turning the machine off, it seems to have installed normally. Initial impressions are that Safari and 10.5.7 aren't bad so far.

Just use time machine after you update to restore the 10.5.6 kext

You go ahead and tell me how that works out. The kext file has a new versions number in 10.5.7.

The safer route would be to edit it yourself. But you need to do a bit of permissions changing, as well as know to restore the Extensions.mkext file, which is a sort of cache for the kernel extensions, I believe.
