Moving entire spaces are still laggy on my end. What's wrong?

WHAT T3H EFF?!

I NEVER had or saw this problem before the update!

Way ta go, Apple, why don't you just come in my house and stomp on my crayons! They're the only thing I love :(

Here's the glitch:

The Spaces act like they're lagging out worse than a Quartz incapable machine with 512mb of ram and a topped out CPU. If I drag one space to the next space, it keeps going for a moment, like it has momentum and won't respond for several seconds! WTF!

Not having the same problem on an iMac 24".

Great video, BTW, it had me laughing. (sorry)

Might it be due to a third party app (Unsanity) or another hack?

Laughing in my moment of anguish?! >8\ Ye shall not be laughing when the coming of hamster Christ raises all those hamsters laid to rest to raze the earth! I'm not sure if that means all hamsters in their most recent form, or if it goes back as far as the bear-like ancestors, Geesus Gerbil was never too clear on that.

Also, I haz NO hacks, the closest I can come are the apps listed below.

Kockgunner, what apps/plugins do you have so we can see what, perhaps, we have in common other than being screwed.

Smart Sleep, iStat Menus, Perian, Caffeine, and the plugin for Soundflower are the only things I could imagine having done something deep within the system.

'Tis likely a Quartz glitch, obstacle, or conflict. Have you tried reinstalling using the combo download?

Well, how would I go about rolling back to 10.6.2?

If you say Time Machine, I'm gonna backhand the closest living thing.

i'm having the same problem, and the only app we have in common is perian, but i doubt that perian is the problem.

I would:
- run Onyx and do all cleaning functions
- reinstall from the Combo updater

and see if it makes a difference.

This would be option A.

Option B: would involve restoring your system via a CarbonCopyCloner backup (provided that you had made one)

Option C: .............................Time Machine..................... (ducks)

Onyx, that reminds me. When I change a Finder's View Options and click "use as defaults" it does NOT use as defaults with other folders.

I notice it mostly applies to the folders ABOVE my home folder. If I set my home folder to have a green background in icon view, and click "use as defaults" then restart, ONLY top-most folders are effected. /, /Users, /Users/Cheeto and the "folder" that contains /.

Great, DMann, you made me smack my potted bamboo plant to bits >8\ Now how am I going to fashion Punji Stakes to catch food?! Well?!

Good god, not only is my computer mocking me, but I have to RISE and WALK to catch my Teddy Grahams.

I am not well, I am not well, indeed.

As demonstrated by the statistics that show that 5 to 6.5 times more people are using Windows 7 alone than are using 10.6.

No *****. While one has to acknowledge that some postings of blind mac"fanboy-ism" can be annoying and it is good to give some contra once in a while to keep the discussions somewhat balanced, I also find that statements like these borderline silly. Trying too hard comes to my mind, which is equally annoying

Borderline would be a fairly gentle way of putting it, in this case. ;)

How dare they mock me D8<

They're JUST out of reach!

But not out of range of my 1920 DWM P08 9mm Police-Issue Luger! Hah! Hahahah! Yeah! And it's JUUUUUST out of reach...barnacles -.-'

Using Onyx now...my attention span is too short to longer care for...whatever I said up there ^

For all you people with Quartz Issues.

For all you people with Quartz Issues.

Try enabling QuartzGL (Warning may make issues worse)

---

Download Xcode and install.

Open Quartz Debug.

Tools -> Make sure Quartz Extreme and Quartz GL are enabled.

VERY IMPORTANT

You must force quit Quartz Debug otherwise it will revert back to the old settings.

Restart.

What might it make worse? My crayons are already in pieces and the paper has been gnawed off so I can't find the Burnt Sienna :(

What is QuartzGL exactly?

QuartzGL may polverise them into a fine snortable powder.

What is QuartzGL exactly?

QuartzGL is an OpenGL accelerated version of Quartz 2D Extreme. Its not enabled by default because its known to cause issues. Developers can choose to enable during the course of a Quartz based program.

It enabled on my eMac, makes animations flawless but makes it flash white whenever a Expose animation has finished. I leave it on as I prefer the faster UI animations over a microsecond flash of colour.

Is there any chance that, perhaps, it IS enabled currently by some strange happenstance and that it is causing my current issues?

If so, how can I check to see if it is enabled now?

I'm not sure how to check it on Leopard/Snow Leopard because the preference file has moved since tiger. XCode is the only way I know.

---

If QuartzGL is enabled, disable it but leave Quartz Extreme enabled. If both are disabled enable both, if you still have issues then disable QuartzGL.

Gave it a try, nothing changed at all. :( Though it was interesting to play with the Debug and see how awful certain effects would render without Quartz Extreme :D

What should I do in Onyx, exactly?

Yes, I restarted, nothing changed so I disabled and restarted, I checked and it is not disabled as per Apple's orders ^.^

You didn't, but the voices did 0.o

Get of the plant man.

I'm not familiar with the plant man, however if I were on him, I'd rather get off.

I notice something else with this issue! I tried to use Spaces in the Guest account, same issue. However! Now I noticed that while dragging a Space, there was a sound coming from either the GPU or CPU!

We've all heard this sound when our MacBook [Pro]'s have their fans near-silent and there's no other sound within the room. You hear that tiny electrical crackling, and whenever you load a new page on eBay it increases in frequency for JUST a moment.

WELL, when dragging a space in either user account, this sound is VERY pronounced! As well, when I switched back to my main account, the 3D transition made the GPU do this as well!

Something is peggin the GPU, I suspect...something...perhaps the plant man <.<
