[what can i say? i didn't see Bonobo's post... plus Germany is 6 or 7 hours ahead of where i live. ;) ]

Don’t worry, Hal, I, too, have often had windows/tabs with reply text boxes open for a few minutes and answered after a bit later.

The time that’s shown next to a post is the chosen board time, so I'd replied just a few minutes before you sent your post. No stain on your armour ;)

Greetings, Tom

Permission to Trash copied items from the Desktop?

Without going through 11 pages of replies, has anyone else noticed that after copying data (folders and/or files) to the desktop from DVD media, it requires authentication to trash them after?

Noticed this after copying then attempting to rename the items unsuccessfully and finally trashing them.

I had recently done a repair permissions prior to the initial copying.

Perhaps an isolated incidence but curious to see if its not.

Will 10.6.3 boot the new MacBooks?

Does anybody know if 10.6.3 will boot the new MacBooks? As in, if I pull the HD out of my 08 macbook and stick it in the new one, will it boot?

It might.

All intel macs can run 10.6.3, however each mac has a specific driver set and specific settings, you would run into problems running it off of that drive.

I recommend just using the Migration Assistant on your new mac, to transfer all information.

Yeah I know, I just want to know if anybody has tried it. I wish Apple would provide a patch for the OS. Can I install 10.6.3 on top of the existing OS install with the DVD the MacBook comes with? Or do I have to use MA? If so I will just migrate manually.

You will just have to download and install the 10.6.3 patch, no matter what version of 10.6 you're using.

When you buy your NEW mac, it will come with Snow Leopard.

Upon the initial startup, it will ask if you want to transfer files and settings. Connect your mac via wireless, firewire, ethernet or what have you and it will transfer.

Install the Update.

All I want to know is, does build 10D573 contain the boot code for the Core i7 MacBooks?

No idea, but all you need to know is that if there is a patch required, it will show up in a Software Update check.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Didn't work for me. I did exactly that. I have a borrowed Macbook which is updated with the latest 10.6.3 downloaded from Apple a couple days ago. Just to find out if it would work, I pulled the drive and tried booting my Core i7 17". No go.

The best practice is to use Migration Assistant, copy over everything from your previous machine.
