Sorry for being upfront, but you're a douche.

If an OS update cripples the performance of an application that you run, regardless of its nature, you have every right to be upset and complain on a public forum. You're both consumers and you both pay good money for an OS that can run the apps that you want to run, reliably.

Mate, that come back was totally inappropriate and I am highly offended by the insult that you have just given me.

I completely disagree with you on every level with everything you just said. For an extreme example, go and look at the stability/performance/compatibility of Microsoft vista.

I will be reporting you for your pathetic reply.

hmmm. so let me get this straight. you are having a hissy fit ONLY because you cannot play some silly game?? what about the performance improvements that 10.6.4 brings out? or the stability improvements?? or the security patches? or application compatibility? or system resource optimisation/bug improvements? not everything revolves around games - and i think that most people who use their mac as a tool will agree that this upgrade will be a nice addition to stability.

let me explain, when i was on 10.6.2 i couldnt get any more then 30 days uptime. the computer would freeze and force me to restart. now that i have 10.6.3 i havent had to restart in 63 days time. the thing doesnt even go to sleep!

it is steams responsibility to write software that go with the OS, so that they communicate "nicely". they must optimise it accordingly, and it is only a beta/new release too.

system performance from 10.6.0->10.6.1 jumped 1000 points in tests, then another 500 from 10.6.1->10.6.2 AND from 10.6.2->10.6.3. we can assume that the same benefits will roughly be seen from 10.6.3->10.6.4.

sorry for being upfront. ;)

This is some of the most retarded thing I've seen on this forum in awhile. Just because you do not play any games does not mean games are silly. People like them and enjoy them and an OS update should not change what people do with their free time.

thanks for your very valuable input.

games arent sily - but the concept of Apple having to suport a program thats still in beta and is still EXTREMELY buggy is just rediculous. how can you possibly argue with that? it simply isnt apples job.

i didnt insult you - you should follow my lead in your next reply, how rude of you.

Don't know if this is because of 10.6.4... but the DVD player application is crashing on me when I go from full screen to windowed mode....

FIXME: nt kernel missing

...

Every disk/partition utility in existence comes up with false meanings, there's a whole entire bloopers book based around such things in linux.

[perhaps you're a recent convert to Mac and/or are otherwise unfamiliar with DURP's history for some reason? Things were pretty pristine from 10.4.6 thru 10.4.11 as far as this sort of issue goes. But —if you enjoy being an apologist, then —enjoy.]

You should get some facts right. Steam is not in beta. It worked well with 10.6.3 and suddenly is not so good with 10.6.4. Apple should care about Steam since it is probably the most important thing that has happened to mac gaming for a long time.

What the hell???

The Finder can't complete the operation because some
data in [filename] can't be read or written.
(Error code -36)

I just got this in 10.6.4. SMB has been working since I installed it. Don't ******* tell me it's ******* broken again.

10.6.4 choppy animations

Since I have installed 10.6.4 update all mac animations are super choppy. Exposé, Dash, even Quicksilver animation is messed up.

Under Windows my graphic card works well, even under heavy gaming.

Any fixes?
Thanks

Turn SMB off, restart, turn it on, restart, hows that?

Running fine here on MP/MBP BTW.

I'm fully aware of an Operating Systems utilities and its inherent problems. I must know these things for my job, and calling Apple out for something that's apparent on every non BSD system (Yes I just said BSD) is just plain stupid.

This new release is full of bugs, especially Safari 5!:(

What happened to you Apple?
It's like you just don't care anymore...

I appreciate from a business acumen level what you're doing, turning the brand into a lifestyle product that people want, but don't actually need.
But please don't let us pro users down like this?

Pretty please...

May 12th. you're right. doesnt make much difference to my statements.

Expose still choppy on MacBook with Intel graphics running 10.6.4

I think we can be fairly sure at this point that Apple do not give 1/10th of a fart about the performance of Intel graphics chipsets any more.

After numerous updates my X3100 running SL still performs worse than an GMA900 running Tiger on several things.

I know they are rubbish chipsets but on Windows 7 I can run Aero Glass, Neverball, XBMC, Google Earth etc and it is all perfectly smooth. On OSX they are choppy, and things like the genie effect, opening the spaces overview etc are dropping frames all over the place.

Can anybody else re-produce this.

I am running 10.6.4

VPN client: Cisco Systems VPN Client Version 4.9.01 (0080)

Network drives attached via SMB.

When I connect to a computer at work using the VPN secure connection (required for work using IPSec/UDP). The network drives disconnect and the my internet connect stops as it should.

However when I close and disconnect my VPN client my network drives do not come back. They did on 10.6.3. They didn't on 10.6.1-.2 and the did on all version 10.5.

I am able to manually re-attach the drives but they will not come up on their own. Anybody else having this issue?

Odd... i'm thoroughly convinced you don't have the slightest idea what's really being discussed. You don't sound up-to-speed with what the real problem even is... or the ways the receipts database (or some equivalent thereof) has —since 10.3.3 or thereabouts —been able to properly track changes. I laugh at this "my job" bit you threw in there too.

:D

You're fired.

10.6.x natively supports the Cisco IPSec VPN– this is new functionality over 10.5. Give that a try and see if it works differently.

I've reverted/downgraded four times to 10.6/.3 ->.4 through different variations.

The keyboard/trackpad freezing issues mentioned here are gone:
https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=10332213

On the other hand, my entire system is generally very laggy under 10.6.4.

I've tested several times with clean 10.6 installs to 10.6.3 to 10.6.4 upgrades. This is a 10.6.4 issue.
