The damn Macbook Pros like to have a useless keyboard and mouse button for about 5 minutes after imaging. This is a very strange build for those new Macbook Pros. Buggy....

i got an "invalid checksum" error with the update through Software Update...so i tried the Combo updater from the apple site, and i still got the "invalid checksum" error. anyone have this problem? (Mac Mini 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.6.6)

You hard drive has errors! Follow the steps in Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck of using Disk Utility (on the DVD install disk) to repair your Disk and repair Permissions. Then try the combo Update again.

Kernel Panic

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

That's a kernel panic, and is usually indicative of hardware issues. You should get your mac checked out.

Let's hope so.

I hate to say it, but my current MacPro set up (10.6.6) is by far the most flaky I ever owned on the Mac platform (since 1993). Crashes and freezes all over the place, the 'favorite' one where the screen gradually turns black and you see in various language that your machine needs to be restarted :(

I have never had a kernel panic on my machine until after the 10.6.7 Update. I used a combo update from 10.6.6 and this is a clean install--two weeks old; no plug-ins; only standard software. My machine gradually slows down to a crawl and the apps all crash; the fan is on constantly now--on a MacBook??? Apple has done something wrong here. These problems are only 24 hours old. My MB ran for 2 weeks with no problems. Guess I'm calling AppleCare tomorrow, but I would not recommend installing this update. If I could roll back, I would, but I hadn't made a TM backup yet.

Edit: I just had my Mac in for a new battery and all of the hardware tested fine otherwise, so I really think this is a poor update.

Still FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!

Tell me...why have you NOT taken that machine in to an Apple store? Does sitting behind your keyboard solve any problems? That is not normal and you should have have freezing issues.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hahaha, clever boy. Well one thing is that we don't have any Apple Store in CZ only Apple Premium Service Partners. And guess what - my iMac spent a week and no problem was identified. All HW tests PASS. If I return to 10.6.2 I can work as any other human.

I have to say that since this update, the discrete graphics (6750M) on my 2011 mbp don't look quite right on my external display any more. The mouse is mildly herky-jerky, scrolling looks funny and working in indesign is not as friendly anymore. I don't get it. The external display is the same rez as the internal.

I am only using one display at a time. Seems fine when using the native display. ???

Ps. Never had any problems the others were experiencing with this graphics driver.

I've updated successfully and there are no problems so far (2010 15" MBP)

Probably not related to this update but Office for mac is much faster to start up now :)

I just spoke with AppleCare about some similar problems I was having--beachballing, delayed clicks, fans on constantly at a high speed, gradual slowing of programs, kernel panic (which I had never before experienced). (The specialist noted that the kernel panic could be software or hardware related.) Here are the steps in order which the AppleCare specialist took with my MacBook*:

SMC Reset
Safe Boot then Repair Disk permissions
PRAM Reset

So far, everything seems to be working okay.

The specialist told me to keep an eye on the system and if the problems persisted, he suggested rolling back to 10.6.6 by reinstalling the OS (easy install similar to an Archive and Install which is no longer an option on SL) from the disc and then reapplying the combo update for 10.6.6 (which I archived) along with any other necessary updates. He did note in his system that my problems only started after the 10.6.7 update.

*Please note: these steps are not guaranteed to fix anyone else's computer.

i tried that, and it didn't work. any other ideas?

i tried downloading the combo update on a different computer in my house, and the same thing happened. so it's not related to either computer...something to do with my internet connection? i've tried wireless and ethernet connections, same thing every time.

How does one perform SMC Reset- Safe Boot -PRAM Reset?

How do I perform

SMC Reset
Safe Boot
PRAM Reset

What do they do and in which order should they be done?

Thanks

Yes, I've notices a graphics jerkiness as well, then I did an experiment and turned off graphics switching in the energy prefrences and everything was fluid again. Turned it on and it was jerky again, same thing happens when watching a video on hulu. I think the updated messed with the switching of the graphics card. Perhaps this is a ploy by Apple to get us to purchase Lion in June...

I don't know if this is related to 10.6.7 or not but I synced my iPad and iPhone sequentially this morning and each time I checked a new box to sync a specific artist/playlist, iTunes froze for 30 seconds. Once the sync actually started, it was fine.

Just did a complete reinstall before I did this. 10.6.0 on my 2009 iMac and did the combo to 10.6.7.

Could be. My issue seems to have resolved itself without a specific change from me that I'm aware of. It seemed to be related to the TV Shows section in iTunes but I'm not sure. I guess I'm happy that it is gone but I sure would like to know why.

FWIW - At least one of my freezes was >20 mins. The second one I didn't wait too long on before getting irritated and hitting the power button but the mouse was completely frozen.

The order you have listed is the order Apple Care recommended, so I would proceed in that order.

If you do not know how to do this, search for these on Apple's website. I say this because the Apple website will list specific instructions for your Mac.

I can say that I think the freeze issues are related at least in part to wake after sleep. I seem to have no problems before my Mac goes to sleep but upon waking from sleep, everything crawls and/or freezes.

I guess I will try a reinstall and if that does not work I will take it in to the Apple Store.

kernel panic

A kernel panic is 99% hardware related. I used to get kernel panics when my GPU overheated. I sometimes get Kernel Panics when one of my external hard drives disappear during a crucial operation due to their stupid hardware design.

After upgrading flash a few weeks ago, I experienced my first kernel panic on a mb pro, which had been running without problems for months. Restarted the machine, and with Apple Tech assistance, I reset the Pram and the OS...I then went to the Adobe site and noted that another version of flash was available after only a few days. I downloaded it and have not had anymore problems. In my case, I think the kernel panic was due to really really bad version of flash. Hope this helps someone.

Only OS bugs and kernel extension bugs can crash a system - a userland application cannot.

An app can, however, call a system API and trigger some buggy kernel code to panic. That's not the same as the app causing the penic, although to the user it looks like that.

I had a panic and grey screen lock up on Tuesday when I pulled the mini-DP cable out to the projector I was showing a presentation on. Other than that, I've had no issues since my original few lockups. I did apply the Air patch that came out the other day but saw no difference.

Yikes

Is that congestion or is your internet rubbish? :)
