10.6.8 disasterous

I installed the 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro, 2 ea MB Pro, 2 ea Mac Mini servers. various failures on all. Reinstalled 10.6.7 on all and all problems are gone. This past 5 days have been the worst in my life. The most obvious problem I observed after getting passed the actual upgrade delays, hangs and failures, was Flash quit working, i.e., nothing on youtube.com worked when viewed via Firefox 4 or 5. Please don't waste your time and bandwidth suggesting I should do/try this that and the other, to me the computer is like a hammer to a carpenter - I don't want to rebuild my hammer every day when I start [real] work - if I did I'd get a Windowz machine. My advice to those of you who have not upgraded to 10.6.8, don't.

Not one issue with 10.6.8 on my macbook pro. I use Fire fox 5 and have no problem with Youtube videos.

After updating, I had serious screen banding. I initially figured it was a hardware failure, but then I noticed that there was no banding on the grey screen at startup, so then I googled "10.6.8 screen banding" and got a bunch of hits. For some people, resetting the PRAM fixed the problem. This wasn't the case for me. Another person said his banding went away after he set the energy saver preference to never turn off the screen (and a restart). I did this, and reset the PRAM again, and now have no banding.

FYI.

*edit*

And, I just changed the power setting back to 20 minutes (on power adaptor), restarted, and I got the banding again! So, I put it back to never, restarted, and no more banding. Crazy! So, I unplugged and went to battery (where the setting is NOT never--I think I have it at 3 min or 5 min or something around there) and restarted. I was thinking I would get the banding again. No banding. Not sure how this bug is triggered, but it's certainly very odd. I hope they address this right away. I'm far from being the only one who is experiencing this. I'll probably revert back to 10.6.7. Problem is, got an email from IT saying that I need to be running 10.6.8 by July 17th or my exchange email account will not work with Mail 4. Too fun.

Would someone with a late 2009+ iMac and a MacBook Pro/Air etc tell me if they're able to connect their laptops to their iMac and change the brightness on the iMac? I've lost that ability with 10.6.8...

Thanks. :)

I'm having the same problem with my late 2009 27" iMac running as a target display for my MacBook Pro. The genius at our local Apple Store had not heard of the problem but was able to confirm it is a 10.6.8 problem. We can only wait for a fix I suppose.

since install of 10.6.8 my dock is using 99% of process?

Since I updated to 10.6.8 it appears that my CPU has been working 5 times harder, it says that my DOCK is the culprit, I never saw this before the update, has anyone else seen this?

I can't seem to view any videos on youtube either. It wasn't right after the update, but rather a few days later.

I already re-installed flash player, but nothing seems to be working

Since using software update last night I too am having Flash video problems.

In both Safari and Firefox, I get a blank black box.

I have reinstalled Flash directly from Adobe.
I have cleared the browser cache.
I have rebooted.
I have logged in as a different user.
I have repaired permissions.

I have put my left foot in and my left foot out; I've put my left foot in and shaken it all about.

NOTHING WORKS.

Any help gratefully received.

UPDATE: I performed the mysterious voodoo ritual of repairing permissions three times and then rebooting. The same bunch of Java-related things kept showing up as needing repair each time. Whatever. All I can tell you is: it worked. YouTube is back in bizniz on this machine. Hope this proves useful to someone else.

Further to the oddness I suffered on the incremental update, it seems that now when I log in or switch between users logged in, the screen will do the cube animation to switch and then 2-3s after the current user's desktop is live, it does a fade to the same blue that follows the startup splash, in exactly the same way as plugging in another screen would, when detect displays adjust the settings - only since 10.6.8 though?

Anyone else have this weirdness going on?

I've tried doing a combo update and repair permissions just as a belt and braces, but still it goes on. very strange.
