any one else having problems with dock app running at 100%?
had to trash the com.apple.doc plist and restart dock and then rebuild dock the way I had it before (always take a snapshot of your dock before trashing plist)

Btw, I dread having to download 4 GB of Lion on a 512 KBps Wimax :(.

YIKES! Time to search out a Starbucks - LOL!

All updates are not required, but recommendable. And some updates aren't even recommendable, because some updates break stuff instead of fixing it.

I know this is only MY experience, but going back to Leopard I have never had an upgrade or update break anything. All have been downloaded and installed the day they were released.

Have they fixed Crashfari?

Safari has been problematic for me with Flash sites as well. I looked around and found that some people were having stability issues if they had iStat Menus installed. I uninstalled that and have cut my crashes by 95%.

UnDocked

Same thing here. Ran the update, rebooted, dock showed briefly then disappeared. Activity monitor show the crash reporter eating cpu.

Rebooting didn't help, and system kept freezing. Started in the safe mode, trashed the .plist, and it sorted out after that. So far...

Not going to read all 13 pages here but I had no problem at home on my iMac. Very smooth. Seems very snappy afterwards. BUT - at work on my 2010 Mac Book Pro the Dock was a problem. Completely disappeared and freezing everything up. A little research showed it was Parallels 6 causing the problem. If you remove the Windows folder from the dock everything goes back to normal. To do this go to configure and then applications and check remove windows folder from dock. Worked for me anyway.

Not sure what the hell some of you are doing to have so many issues. Are you guys cursed? Are you poking your Mac hard with a stick? My 2007 MacBook took the update like a champ.

You all must keep your Macs in a sketchy unstable state.

This pretty much happens once or twice seemingly ever OS X version, some dot update breaks stuff with absolutely no real consistency or possible reason.

Dock Crashing and running at 100%

I noticed that after the upgrade to 10.6.8 my Dock kept crashing and when I checked the processes, it is pegging my CPU @100%. Needless to say, I just rolled back with Time Machine, to my last backup.

Anyone having problems with SMB? I can only connect to my share folder by using my computer and not my IP on that computer.

Edit: Nvm please disregard.

For those of you with the Dock crashing. Are you running Parallels 6? See my post above. There is a fix.

I am indeed running Parallels 6. I will try removing the windows folder from the dock and try upgrading again.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Knocks on wood, but so far on my early 2007 MBP, no random lockups/system freezes (requiring me to force complete shutdown) like 10.6.7

Kernel Panic

I too had a Kernel panic on the initial reboot after installing and though I have Parallels 6, which others seem to be having problems with, a second reboot cured everything and it's back running like a champ.
Also I have never had a crash with Safari 5.

Did you try to restore the Windows applications folder after the upgrade?
Another person reported that it was the 1password app the cause of the problem.

Flicker problem fixed!!!

NVIDIA released a new driver today for the Quadro 4000 card and the flicker problem has been fixed with 10.6.8!!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!

I installed the update a few hours ago and everything seems to be running fine. Unfortunately I don't see any 3D improvements in regards to performance.

Here's hoping that OS X 10.7 brings me the long overdue OpenGLL 3.3 that I've always wanted.

Anyone finding (at least on the 2011 15" MBP) that the integrated graphics don't seem to be working, e.g. the discrete GPU is being dominant? I'm basing this on overriding the settings with Gfxcardstatus so it uses integrated and then running firefox. The GPU diode temperature is hitting 47 degrees C. Previously, there was no reading for the GPU diode when the integrated GPU was being used.

Only issue I've encountered is that streaming audio & video that requires Flip4Mac won't load in QT (QT does open, but just stays on "loading" forever). Works fine when watching it in-browser though, we just lose some control and resizing ability. Other than that I see no difference, which is what I'd expect from this update.

Mac won't boot after 10.6.8? Try this.

The Problem:
After updating my Mac to 10.6.8, it wouldn't boot up. It crashed (KP) and said I had to restart. But it wouldn't boot no matter how many times I restarted it. Somewhere in the log (visible on the crash screen) it said "metakine" which I know to be the name of a software company. They make a program called Handsoff, which is a firewall program many people use. Handsoff needed to be updated to be compatible with 10.6.8. I don't know if this affects users of Little Snitch.

My Solution:
With your Mac off, boot up into SAFE MODE: HOLD down the SHIFT KEY while turning it on, and don't let go until you see a progress bar. When your mac boots up, login (if necessary) and open Handsoff. Update it. Don't worry if it says update failed, because mine did too. Restart your computer and everything should be fine.

2008 MacBook Alu Unibody

10.6.8 loaded and installed faultlessly with no interventions required other than type in my password at the login screen. Everything works fine on this 2008 MacBook Alu Unibody. Next is my wife's 2006 white MacBook.

My download was the same size as shown in this article.

Frozen up Late 2009 MBP

Downloaded and tried to install. Wouldn't install "error on installation" message. Rebooted several times and just get the gray screen with spinning ball of spokes. Never had this kind of problem in 20 years of Macs. Going to boot from CD & see what's going on. Not fun.

Apple should let you show up at the store and load it on a flash drive for the slow internet people. Buy it and walk out.

You know... good idea. Have you tried doing just that? If I was the manager of an Apple store, I'd keep the combo downloads on a drive so I'd just have to copy the file onto customer's flash drives. And there would be a sign saying so.

Hint: free wi-fi at every McDonald's, and the nearest one is only a couple hundred yards away, as opposed to the nearest Apple store, which would be 147 miles for me.
