That looks amazing. I was hoping we might see a little more of the iPad's influence exert itself in places like the iCal.
Given that Apple sold over 4 million Macs last quarter, that must equate to around $7 billion in revenue. Macs still make up around a quarter of Apples revenue, so while iPhones might be where the most money is coming in, Apple can't ignore $7 billion per quarter...

For what is worth... no we don't know the price, but it was a guess (good one in my opinion... though given Apple's latest trends I don't think I'm wrong at all).
I haven't heard any credible information because the only credible information comes from Apple's PR, and its statements. However, as a human being with a brain and a logical reasoning ability, I was inferring the available information and the latest Apple's moves, and that is my conclusion. Apple is not focused on that customer base which made it what it is today, and its main focus is AppStore, iTunes, and subscriptions... and the best way to achieve is by continuing the process started with iOS... aka... locking down every single device sold; whether that implies losing customers or not, but the profit will continue increasing, I have no doubt of that.
Lion is nothing, that's correct (in my humble opinion). Unifying those systems is an update, it is no near to being a feature because it is nothing new, neither it implies a major change, the underlying functionality remains (and it's even said that it's making the usability of the reunification of these different features in one place worse). Multitouch gestures are an extra which do not deserve more than an update of the OS...
The new ways for app launching, etc... are just a derived need from the medium-term feature (related to that locking down the OS). If you pretend selling the idea that because an application is now backgrounded, and the state is restored next time... is an innovation, then I think someone is omitting what many applications are doing nowadays... though they take different approaches (usually only saving windows position/size, and some other related preferences, though sometimes they even open the file you were editing!). Wireless file sharing is certainly cool... I thought rsync was just useless
or if you don't mind... Dropbox and alike seem to be doing a bad job...Let's face, OS X is built on top of UNIX, it's just an UI and a set of wizards and aiding tools. Which is ok, I'm not saying otherwise, but nowadays there aren't enough new features to show within the timeframe the market demands an update; and that's the reason for Apple to deliver Lion, because the market is asking for it, but they have nothing, and that's why they are marketing the iOS features into Mac OS X, and some other things (which are just make up of old things, good anyways).
That's why they are, little by little, switching into the iOS experience... I'm quite inclined towards Lion being the last OS X version where the user will still be able to install applications on its own. The next one... I'm afraid... will be fully AppStore oriented... and that's when we will see the first jailbroken computers in history
I violated my own rule and installed Lion mid-project so I haven't had a lot of opportunity to mess with it all that much at this point, so I don't know if I like it or not. iCal tries to look like the iPad version but it feels like it falls flat on quick look.
Are there any new internet or network features? Is internet access built in differently to take advantage of the cloud as the major news sources claim?
More to the point, I'll be interested in the new focus after 10.7 b/c the new team head is focused on internet tech and cloud services I want to see something like Chrome OS but can run native apps with a radically new UI, something simple like Sony's Rachel UI for the Xperia X10, or the PS3 UI or even iPad UI...
Also, new filesystem for the Love of God please! License something or develop your own HFS+ is old and dead. We should, at minimum, have a 64-bit system, with clones, and full disk encryption. Maybe links to cloud/web services in a unique way no one have thought of yet Just get rid of all the redundancy and crap to make a super efficient machine

I like it, it's subtle enough.They didn't go overboard with the metaphor like they did with Address Book, which I find to be atrocious.
They're working on it, I remember reading somewhere about a job posting for FS engineers to develop a new FS. They were going to use ZFS, but the licensing fell through.
I still think HFS+ is great. And they do have full disk encryption. I don't know why you thought they didn't, but they do. And what do you mean by a 64-bit system? The kernel already is 64-bit with the support for 32-bit apps.
A company called Ten's Complement is working on ZFS and expect it to be released by this summer.

The new iCal is hideous. This "metaphor" crap is awful, and reeks of Mac OS 9. Make things look sleek and modern like the new Mail app, please.

Very true but those Macs are portables, not iMacs and certainly not the overpriced and overpowered Xeon server driven Mac Pro's that replaced the affordable and (at the time) upgradeable G4's and G5's we all used for our work. What happened to the dedicated 20/23/30" LCD CCFL Apple Cinema Display line, or even the Apple Studio Display line before them? Replaced with ONE 27" LED LCD based off the 27" iMac (basically an iMac without a computer). Times change, I get it, but why do they have to leave us power users who supported them before the iPod and need Apple systems for work behind? It's costing us thousands to switch to Windows systems and applications such as Avid and Premiere Pro/Adobe Suites.
IDevices are amazing, but please, don't make the already dwindling prosumers systems become iOS systems for the average Joe. There are a lot of people on here that are new comers from Apple's iPod/iPhone influx that don't know/understand what this is doing to those who really need OS X and affordable mid-towers and top notch displays again… and once built in California, now "designed" in California. Man, sad times for us and the states on that change...
It looks like the iPad version, yes. But it doesn't try to emulate real-world objects, like Address Book and iCal look like an actual address book and calendar. (That would be awful--imagine rummaging through a "stack" of letters in a 3D-rendered mailbox.
