Considering the issues and security problems, I would say this update came late.

I thought my Watch had issues btw, when it stopped unlocking the mac.

For Macs without Touch ID, this is a God send thank you.

With TouchID, its just faster to put your finger on the sensor.
Unlocking with TouchID is very fast. Typically however my MacBook has already unlocked with my watch before I can even get to the TouchID. I love unlock with my watch and am always frustrated when it doesn't work (which is fortunately become rare in recent months).

I'm hoping that it fixes the Universal Control problems as it was unusable for me. I switched back to Synergy but will give UC a try again after updating my systems.

Apple seems to have completely lost touch with reality… So many bugs in macOS and this makes it to the top of the list…
Just imagine the s***storm for neglecting a bug like missing skin colors.

Don’t get me wrong - inclusiveness is surely a great thing. But I would like to think that Apple were able to spot and prioritize more pressing bugs.

Apple today released macOS Ventura 13.3.1, a minor update to the macOS Ventura operating system released last October. macOS Ventura 13.3.1 comes almost two weeks after the launch of macOS Ventura 13.3.

The ‌‌‌macOS Ventura‌‌‌ 13.3.1 update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Settings.

According to Apple’s release notes for the update, it introduces a fix for a bug that could cause Auto Unlock with Apple Watch not to work, plus it includes a fix for an issue that caused the pushing hands emoji not to show skin tone variations.Apple is already beta testing macOS Ventura 13.4, an update that will follow macOS Ventura 13.3 and should see a release in the next month or so.

It seems like every other update fixes the "Unlock by Apple watch" feature. I wonder who's breaking it between the fix updates.

I wish they would fix the "signal too weak to unlock" issue.

Yes 🙄 At work, my Mac Mini is behind my display, and I literally have to reach my hand over the display for unlock with Apple Watch to work. My Apple Watch can receive notifications via my iPhone that's 60 feet away in another room, but it can't unlock a Mac that's 3 feet from me? Makes no sense.

How about my watch unlocking my Mac Studio from 2 rooms away? I would love that fix. Sleeping this Mac is almost useless. Constantly wakes and unlocks even though I’m nowhere near it.

Seems to be the opposite problem that everyone else is having. However, my Macs won't even attempt to unlock with the Apple Watch (whether it succeeds or fails) until you attempt to wake the computer (or display, if you have it set to immediately require password upon display sleep). So that doesn't make sense why your Apple Watch is actually waking your Mac Studio AND unlocking it.

What happened to Rapid Security Response updates? I have yet to see a single one. They are still using full OS updates to patch security issues...

The Rapid Response update still requires admin password, rebooting the Mac in both times that Apple tested it modifying something like a Safari version for example and then reverting to what it was before the update. I believe that would be more precise/limited tasked for MacOS security patch than what this MacOS 13.3.1 update implemented.

Are security fixes like these usually included in subsequent betas? i went from 13.3 to 13.4 beta so dont have the chance to install 13.3.1. Thanks.

A lot of times they are implemented later than the public security updates, like one seed behind. Just not documented as well to determine if it has or not.

So will there be any way to check? I have non stop problems with my apple watch and so it's a big deal for me. Am i best to completely format my machine and reinstall ventura? That would suck.

I only updated to 13.4 in the hope that the AWU would be fixed, which is the real irony.

Since the seeds come out a lot more often then any public release/update, chances are you will find out sooner if your problem has been fixed or improved as the betas or finally the RC come out.

I certainly wouldn't do what you thinking (format/reinstall). Now first you can backup the Mac to a external ASR volume (SSD or HDD), have a them run a DFU restore at a Apple Store via appointment (factory MacOS/system FW install) then use that external ASR backup with Migration Assistant to recover right back to the point in time before something that drastic. Downside this you do when something weird is happening via MacOS and you want its gone.

I use Carbon Copy Cloner 6.1.5 for snapshots of the Mac volume. (ASR).

I am on monterey. Zero reasons to upgrade to ventura
Only the most recent macOS release gets all the security patches:

I understand there are valid grounds not to update to Ventura — for example, an older app or plug-in might still not support it — but this seems to be a pretty compelling to upgrade if you can.

any fix for the handoff issue? (or is that related to the Apple Watch issue)? Appears to affect my M1 Mac more than my Intel Macs.
There's a fix for Handoff (and Voice memos not working in Messages). Solution was posted by the Amazing Iceman in this article - macOS 13.3 and iPadOS 16.4 Users Report Issues With Continuity Features

Here's what he said -
The issue only affected my M1 MBP. Intel Mac had no issues.
I was able to fix it by resetting Bluetooth by running this command in the Terminal:
sudo pkill bluetoothd
Nothing else worked.
That post is here - https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ith-continuity-features.2385955/post-32080214

Worked for me. Handoff and Voice Memos working as usual. Haven't updated to 13.3.1 yet. If those features end up (re)broken after the update, I'll run the Terminal command again.
