Thats disappointing. I made peace with not having it enabled as my Mini is pretty low risk for theft/etc, but it's still disappointing they haven't got it worked out.
It's a hardware issue and won't be fixed by software updates. In Apple Silicon Macs it works differently as the secure enclave is integrated into the CPU.

And as yet we have no clue if eGPU's will even be supported by Arm Macs anyway, right? So it could just be a moot point now.

If you want you can keep backup of the Big Sur installer itself.

Have the installer downloaded as you normally would. Then when it's downloaded, go to Applications folder and there would be an app-like file named "Install macOS Big Sur". Copy it to your preferred storage option.

Although you can find these OS images as standalone download from third party websites, with a bit of google search, it's usually a good idea to keep the OS installer for future use also, should you ever need to downgrade or fresh install etc. I myself have been keeping a copy of each OS since Sierra.

And FYI, you can create bootable usb installer using this one image and install Big Sur in as many computers as you'd like with that one USB. See this apple support tutorial.

Thanks very much, Sovon, and others who replied to my post. To get earlier software versions I had always just clicked on the "update your software" link in the Mac's System Preferences. Didn't know there was something called a stand-alone installer. After the first Big Sur download failed, I got a message about the InstallAssistant.pkg being rejected by the Gatekeeper -- a well-known problem apparently. Anyway, I followed the suggestion to download Big Sur from the App Store, which I didn't know you could do. It worked fine, and Big Sur looks stable on my system so far.

Will follow-up on other replies about getting and saving version back-up installers. Again, thanks all!

Same! For my part, I’d like to see eGPU and FileVault work together. I have to open my macbook up to type in my password when I boot/reboot it with FileVault on.

It’sa small inconvenience, but still I would rather since I keep my Macbook Pro in a clamshell stand.

Every macos release I turn FileVault on, test rebooting, and turn it back off again.
Mine is Messages. You still cant select text in messages easily. There is spontaneous, continuous CPU maxing out that happens. Tapback takes seconds to register. Its silly.

I installed it last night to my 2017 Macbook pro 13" and it's been intermittently crackling ever since. It sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies. This happen to anyone else?

Update. I installed 11.2 and FileVault and eGPU's still do not like each other. I'm turning FV back off ..again.

What has the 11.2.1 update(?) fixed, and has it created new problems?

Screen Saver bugs were not fixed in Big Sur 11.2 or 11.2.1 or 11.2.2

(e.g. arrow keys do not work like they did before, etc.)

When will this be fixed?

FEATURES STILL WANTED:
1. We used to be able to go "Back" and “Forward” to previously shown photos using the ARROW KEYS … when will this useful, but now broken, feature by fixed? In 11.2, when you hit the Back-Arrow, ScreenSaver is exit'ed instead of going Back to the prior photo.
2. Photos are not displayed randomly (currently, it only sorts thru some subset of saved photos), so what is the general algorithm used to select photos? I want to point the Screen Saver to randomly show ALL 100,000+ photos I have in PHOTOS on my Apple/Mac. How?
3. How can I delete or edit a photo shown on the Screen Saver? (need keystroke to go directly to that pic in PHOTOS)
4. How to re-set the time between pics displayed?
5. Need ability to display the filename of each pic on the Screen Saver (so we know which photo needs editing/deleting)
6. Need VIDEO's stored in PHOTOS to display also.
7. Where is the documentation for SCREEN SAVER?

P.S. I want to go to work for Apple as their "Product Manager" for the Screen Saver app to get it optimized. Apple would sell thousands/millions more computers for Kitchens and Family Rooms, worldwide, if they would just fix this one key app, then promote it.
Bugs are still not fixed in Big Sur 11.2.2, today's latest update. Aarrggh !

What's with the numbering system? It makes it look like there's been 2 significant OS updates since Big Sur came out, when the truth is there's been 2 bugfix releases. What's wrong with calling it 11.0.2?
it must have had two major releases of new emoticons; the kind of stuff everybody is after, not a working product, that would be silly.

So with every 'bug/feature' release, I get more problems. My AirPods simply don't know what to connect to and randomly connect to the wrong thing, regardless of my insistence. More recently they now tell me they are connected, but the sound continues to issue forth from my Mac. I have to go into Bluetooth settings disconnect and reconnect to fix this. My mail no longer notifies me of new mail, I get a ghostly ping and no badges. I think this is something people have moaned about before that I wasn't suffering from, so well done Apple something else you're in the process of unfixing. It's March so I'm a bit surprised they're not starting to try and peddle the next version as some sort of way out, let's call it the Vista Method. I can say I fixed my WIFI woes by turning off 'unlock using Apple watch' and I can make them come back by turning this 'feature' on; so it would seem Apple are incapable of fixing that issue too.

This was STILL not fixed in the newer Version 11.2.3 !!!

I am SURE they know that it is 100% broken. (Unless they never use screen-save themselves ... haha)
I haven't used a screen saver in decades so I wouldn't count it as impossible. The first thing I do with a new macOS install is turn off the screen saver.

True, with the advent of lcd’s (around 20 years ago), other than for security, not sure what’s the point of a ‘screen saver’ is. I’ve just trashed my mac and reinstalled Big Sur. I have my e-mail badges back, but who on earth enables remote content downloading in emails (consider pesky tagged images in spam) by default??? Apparently the very security conscious and data privacy sensitive Apple does... And I’ve just checked again, and turning on ‘watch unlocking’ does indeed bugger up your WiFi connection stability.
