Apple today released macOS Big Sur 11.6.7, a minor update to the macOS Big Sur operating system that preceded the current macOS Monterey release. The update is being made available to those with Macs that are still running the Big Sur operating system.

The new ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌macOS Big Sur‌‌‌‌‌‌ 11.6.7 update can be downloaded to all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Preferences.

According to Apple's release notes, the update addresses an issue that could cause Mail and apps like Microsoft Outlook to be unable to open attachments if the app required to open the file is already running.

It's good to see Apple pushing updates for older versions now that I'll be stuck on Monterey (2016 MBP). I still think they should update Macs to the latest OS for more than 5 major OS versions but at least my MacBook will be supported for a few more years. Also Microsoft isn't doing any better...

I'm in the same boat as you. I have the Macbook Pro 2016 and don't have the money to upgrade to the new line of Macs this year. I'm agressively saving for next year though. I still can't decide between 13.6" M2 Macbook Air vs 14" Macbook Pro.

I like the thiness of the Air, but want the full 14" screen. The price point of the Air when going above stock build is also very steep making the M1 Pro 14" a much more attractive buy at the expense of increasing the overall cost of the machine for performance that I probably wouldn't take full advantage of.

It's so weird how Apple's OS often breaks 3rd party software. I never hear about Microsoft's OS doing the same thing.

LOL I hope that was being facetious.

Microsoft broke 120,000 desktop seats across 5000 separate companies due to a bug in IE9 download prompting. This was open for 9 years in Connect until they shut that down and they never even looked at it despite being a MS Gold Partner at the time. The bug went away when they replaced IE with Edge finally.

This happened to my boss today on 12.4 Monterey. Hopefully there is a bug fix coming through for that OS as well.

oh my Gosh. Internet Explorer version 9 was so long ago. I think Netscape was still around.

Give Microsoft a break. Will you?

I've got a 2013 MacBook Pro, and I've been itching to get a new one, but this one is running smoothly and just won't die! Glad to have an update to Big Sur, the last OS supported by this nearly 10 year old Mac.

On the one hand, MS breaks 3rd party software all the time, but on the other MS isn't aggressive enough with EOL OS components.

For years I had some racing wheels that would not work every couple of Windows updates.

Microsoft even fixes 3rd party software ;)
On beta versions of Windows 95, SimCity wasn’t working in testing. Microsoft tracked down the bug and added specific code to Windows 95 that looks for SimCity. If it finds SimCity running, it runs the memory allocator in a special mode that doesn’t free memory right away. That’s the kind of obsession with backward compatibility that made people willing to upgrade to Windows 95.

I know how you feel. I had MacBook from early 2008 and it was as expensive as my M1 MacBook Air. It lost the support after 4 years. Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. I went to Apple Discussion's to complain and they just told me to buy a new Mac.

Also, Microsoft is doing a great job. Windows is always supported for longer than Mac. Your 2016 MBP could even run Windows 11.

Well,as people in this forum said. Don't blame Microsoft either. I blamed Apple for breaking compatibility with my Docking Station and then I said that people here blame Microsoft all the time and then got a sensible response from someone not to blame Microsoft. Always blame the developers.

How strange, it prompted me to install Rosetta again when I tried to start WhatsApp desktop after the update 🤔

I used to support commercial clients and yes Microsoft DID occasionally kill or maim third party software. Heck, occasionally they would even do it to their own software! Most of the time, the 'offending companies' were told their software was to blame and they would have to fix it. It seemed only rarely would Microsoft come down from on high and admit their 'fix' broke something, and then release another fix to fix the fix.

It happened, but was rare, and sometimes the errors would be so silly, like this one, not checking to see if the app is already running before trying to open it.

Nope, Microsoft are worse than Apple. They cut off support for anything older than 8th gen Intel CPUs so most PCs from 2018 are not officially supported. Although it's allegedly easy to just change some values in the registry and update to 11. The limitation is just artificial.

That's a good point with TPM and all that.
But also (or maybe it's related?) VMWare Player doesn't seem to work under Windows 11 anymore. At least I haven't been able to get it to run properly. On the same computer, VMWare Player works just fine under Windows 10.
