Apple Releases macOS Golden Gate Beta 5

Apple today provided developers with the fifth beta of macOS Golden Gate, with the update coming two weeks after Apple seeded the fourth beta.

Developers can download macOS Golden Gate by going to System Settings > General > Software Update. Beta Updates will need to be enabled, and a free developer account is required.

macOS Golden Gate includes multiple design improvements. Liquid Glass opacity has been improved to increase readability, there's a slider for controlling the level of transparency, and changes to shadowing make it easier to tell when a window is active. Apps now have uniform toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, and less rounded corners, plus there are fewer icons in menu bars.

Siri has been transformed into Siri AI, a chatbot-style assistant that combines general world knowledge, your personal data, and onscreen awareness to answer questions about anything and find information for you. Siri lives in Spotlight, and you can ask questions with the new Search or Ask interface.

There's also a Siri app where you can chat with Siri and view past conversations, and on newer Macs, you can set a custom voice for Siri with personalized pace and expressivity. Visual Intelligence is now on the Mac so Siri can answer questions about what's on your screen, and a Write with Siri feature lets Siri generate text or give feedback on your writing.

There are AI photo editing tools in the Photos app, AI tab organization in Safari, an option to use AI to automatically update weak passwords in the Passwords app, and a revamped Image Playground app that can generate photorealistic images.

I've not had a single hickup. What issues are you having? I mostly use my system for Photoshop, email, and some light coding.

General UI in the last build has been really bad for me. Framerate whenever I try to use Spaces falls right off the cliff, scrolling in Safari (and only Safari) sometimes bad.

Main annoyance is BT stack cutouts and periodic sluggishness, especially post boot, but there's been some more humorous ones (which I have filed radars on) like it throwing low battery warnings at 70ish % when waking from sleep. I'm using it on about the lowest spec hardware it's set for, my 13" MBP M1 with 8/256 spec.

I don't use Spaces but just tested it quickly and I do see some lag in it, nothing crazy but could be improved for sure. I haven't noticed the Safari problem.

I haven't personally experienced either of those on my 2021 14in M1 Pro. The only BT device I use is a logitech mouse though.

The wait is over! My mac has been very slow since the morning and I only 24% Ram usage, 45% CPU even switching desktop will freeze the mac for 3-5s, energy consumption still high, fan running at max speed.
Hopefully this update fixes my issues.

oh yeah, that’s another thing, observed a lot of kernel processes that are going for like 72+ hours, just made up my mind this morning to start shutting down my Mac every night for a cold-restart until this gets sorted out… anyway fingers crossed

I’m getting these symptoms on 26.6.1. Possibly jumping on the beta train with this latest seed if all goes well.

if there's anyone who has installed this beta, are you also seeing something weird with the light version of the abstract golden gate wallpaper? for some reason, it appears to be the iOS 27 version; the dark variant of the desktop wallpaper is still the same as before.
