There is also a new xprotect and gatekeeper:

These often install automatically without any users interaction via the mac app store. However it is also quite common for them to fail to install. This results in many people having very old versions of these leaving their computers vulnerable. So it is good to get these installers to force them to install if necessary.

I find that the app Walls of Troy helps to ascertain if it is up-to-date. You can get it here if you want: https://itunes.apple.com/app/wallsoftroy/id443987849
After updating manually, it shows mine as 1/12/18. Is that normal/the most up to date?

So far I haven't seen month 13 is out of bounds again. That was driving me crazy. There are some other console errors that are unresolved but so far everything is in order on my 2016 15" tMBP.
After updating manually, it shows mine as 1/12/18. Is that normal/the most up to date?

My Gatekeeper version is 135 1/23/18 and XProtect is 2098 1/16/18.

Can someone with 10.13.3 check this issue with keyboard light and scroll lag? Thanks.

I don't have the 2017 model, but I don't have this issue on my 2016. Never really head a problem with scroll lag with the iGPU. The HD 530 while worse than the iGPUs on the 13" MBPs is still decent enough for anything that doesn't involve any intensive work. My dGPU only kicks in when I start photoshop or edit video. The rest of the time it's always using the iGPU.

There are 2 ways to check the version for gatekeeper and xprotect. And you will want to do both to compare what the latest version is and what is on your computer.

The online way is to see the link for example for the latest xprotect:

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...gwwexg1eqkk3d3iuv/XProtectPlistConfigData.pkg

now change the file extension in this link to pkm instead.

So this now becomes

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...gwwexg1eqkk3d3iuv/XProtectPlistConfigData.pkm

Download the pkm file and open it with textedit. Somewhere near the top it says the version is 2098.

Do the same for gatekeeper and it says the version is 135.

The other way to check what is actually on your computer, is go to folder /private/var/db for gatekeeper and this is the gkopaque.bundle

Get Info on that and if it is up-to-date it says it is version 135.

Then for XProtect go to folder /System/Library/CoreServices and get info on the XProtect.bundle and if it is up-to-date it says the version is 2098.

If the 2 methods give you the same numbers then you are up to date. If not then install the newer versions from the latest pkg files.

can you confirm that 10.13.3 is smoother than 10.13.2. what kind of mac are you using. thx

I'm seeing smoother graphics performance all round with the latest High Sierra update. Some glitches have gone, and 4K HEVC videos now play smoothly with REC 709 color profile, but REC 2020 color profile is still jerky (but better than before).

This terrible update just bricked my entire Apple Mail app.

Leave it to Apple to screw up every single update that they ever release.

I just updated macOS from 10.3.2 to macOS 10.3.3, simply to fix Apple's OTHER BUG of Messages appearing out of order... and lo and behold, after updating, Apple Mail doesn't work anymore.

Apple Mail will launch, but when trying to compose a new message, nothing but a blank compose window shows up on the screen. Nothing else responds in Apple Mail, either. The entire program just sits there, completely unresponsive.

Playing devil's advocate, I even allowed Mail to sit unattended for 3 hours on its own... and after coming back 3 hours later, absolutely nothing. Same exact thing.

Force-quitting Mail and relaunching it doesn't do a thing... same exact problem.

Restarting the Mac doesn't do a thing... same exact problem.

Gee, thanks, Apple! Now I have a non-working email program, thanks to you!!

Great job on your continued downward spiral into irrelevance in the technology world.
Scotty321 -- just for grins, try re-booting into safe mode, then re-boot normally. I have seen this help more than a couple of times for obscure problems. I'm no software engineer, but I'm told that this clears various caches, rebuilds plist files and maybe some other housecleaning. It's worth a try.

If this doesn't work and your issue is mainly related to the Mail app, try deleting your email accounts, re-boot, then adding back your email accounts in the Mail app. Assuming that your email accounts are IMAP (not POP) accounts, your email accounts will be re-built and your emails should re-download from the email provider's server. Any emails previously moved or copied to local (stored on your Mac) mailboxes will not be affected.

Good luck. Let us know if either of these procedures work for you. These two generic-type fixes were suggested by AppleCare reps (sometimes after escalating to second-tier reps) over the past 2 or 3 years for various issues I have had for our two iMacs.

My iMac restarts with nothing more than an empty black screen. Nothing more to see than my black mouse arrow with white contour lines around it.. any work around? Previous Spectre update was just the same. Even leaving the Mac unattended for hours. Till then I couldn’t shut down my Mac any more. Need to hard shut down with power button...

I had the same issue on my 2015 iMac. I ended up booting into recovery mode and reinstalling the OS (which will be the latest update 10.13.3). With luck that will fix whatever was causing the update glitch. Takes longer, sure, but I figure it's worth the extra time to get a fresh install when you know you're having an odd problem.

Should I upgrade from Sierra now? Running it on 13" 2012 Macbook Pro that was bought in 2014.

As always they fix this and break something else... That is the motto.

Apple if you read this, please fix Preview to render PDF documents properly. I hope I'm not asking for something impossible...
TokMok3 - To fix your PDF issue, try re-booting into safe mode, then re-boot normally. I have seen this procedure fix obscure software problems in the past, including a problem I had with PDF files after updating to one of the macOS 10.12 versions and again later to macOS 10.13. The PDF problem had something to do with the macOS conversion to a new version of PDF Kit and changing to APFS on SSDs. Long story short, to fix my problem required updating my scanner's software plus a re-boot into safe mode, then standard re-boot. Give it a try and let us know if this works.

Can you update from 10.12.6 using the combo update? System requirements on combo page show 10.13.0 - 10.13.2. If not, would the App Store be the only/best way?

Apple Mail is working without issues here

Interestingly enough, the combo updater failed the first try on my 2015 rMBP, go figure. Second try was successful. The only thing different was the second time through, I told the installer to NOT trash the dmg file.

Spooky - I did that as I wanted to re-use the installer on my iMac when I get home...given my App Store update didn't install but DID trash the update files I wonder if the updater script is somehow deleting the installer before installing it (eek!)

10.13.3 like 10.13.2 ‘s update doesn’t work. My Mac restarts with a black screen. Nothing but a black arrow with white outer lines around the arrow to see. Even when I leave my Mac for hours like that. Nothing changes... any workaround?

Combo Update downloaded from Apple Store installs without issue here

I know this is kind of a running joke here, but Safari definitely feels snappier! And I never said that before.

Let's hope with 10.13.3 High Sierra has finally reached it should have been at from day 1.
