For anybody where the update hangs at the progress bar, try unplugging all external devices (including your iPhone if it's docked). That fixed the issue with the updates hanging and I've had that problem with every update since HS was released.
My Mac has been doing this with the last few updates. I’ll give your suggestion a try

in terms of hanging during the update - for me - it starts the update and then goes blank - if I sit and wait it starts up again eventually. I think, for me, Apple needs a better indication of what is happening or not.

Gone back to Yosemite after running out of patience with High Sierra. Now no more signing out of websites, no more daft message telling me I can't use full screen when I am in full screen, A calendar I can set new events on again, Reaper works just as well, everything runs just as well if not snappier. Now trying to return to Snow Leopard where I can ditch all the silly Mac apps like Chess, Dashboard, Game Centre, iTunes, iWebb, Launchpad, Mission Control, Photo Booth, Photos, Reminders etc. etc and run a lean machine again. And not feel walled in by Appledom. Enough.
I'll downgrade (reinstall) to the latest Sierra build soon. I was completely fine with Sierra, I just did't like that ugly white notification center. High sierra is just a disaster and my MBP is so much noisier + other issues. DisplayLink devices stopped working after their lastest "beautiful" FP. They should have called it low Sierra as it's just ****** up Sierra for many.. and I even waited half a year after HS release hoping that couple of initial FPs will make it better.. I was wrong.

Previous Safari built was Version 11.1 (13605.1.33.1.3)?
I never got it
I had been working with 11.1 (13605.1.33.1.2) all this time!! UNDER macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 (17E199)
I wonder what went wrong :mad::confused::mad:
I will double check IF this time I get Version 11.1 (13605.1.33.1.4)

Same thing happened to me, I checked my Safari version before updating and was working with .2. Now after the update Safari is at its latest version (.4). What the hell Apple!

I think the problem started when I created a macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 (17E199) USB bootable, I bet you did the same :(

Here are the Safari 11.1 links for El Capitan and Sierra.

It updates build 11605.1.33.1.3 to 11605.1.33.1.4 for El Capitan and 12605.1.33.1.3 to 12605.1.33.1.4 for Sierra if you already have updated to 11.1 before. So it's the same version number, just a slightly higher build number.

Actually I did not create a 10.13.4 bootable, so I have no clue how it happened? Just one of those weird, random bugs.

Installing this update caused my 2011 MacBook Pro to boot to a black screen. I had to reset the SMC to resolve the issue.

Weren’t most of those in SL? Maybe even Tiger?

Either way, how is Chess making your machine bloated, other than taking up a few MB of HDD space? It’s not like it’s using resources.

I haven't had any issues with High Sierra or any of it's updates on both a 5k SSD iMac at home and a 5K Fusion Drive at work.

Well I'm stuck installing, I've unplugged all my USB devices and it's still not moving. Sigh!
