Well I'm stuck installing, I've unplugged all my USB devices and it's still not moving. Sigh!

Any progress since? I've noticed that that made all the difference because when it'd get stuck it would say "Calculating time remaining" without any indication of the amount of time left and stayed stuck like that a good 20mn. As soon as i unplugged my phone and the two USB drives I had plugged in, the "Time remaining: xx minutes" appeared immediately right after and it started working again. Notice that change at least? As long as there's a time remaining, it is working.

Gone back to Yosemite after running out of patience with High Sierra. Now no more signing out of websites, no more daft message telling me I can't use full screen when I am in full screen, A calendar I can set new events on again, Reaper works just as well, everything runs just as well if not snappier. Now trying to return to Snow Leopard where I can ditch all the silly Mac apps like Chess, Dashboard, Game Centre, iTunes, iWebb, Launchpad, Mission Control, Photo Booth, Photos, Reminders etc. etc and run a lean machine again. And not feel walled in by Appledom. Enough.
I haven't experienced any of those but since High Sierra my 2012 Mac Mini with 8GB of ram will go from "Sleep Mode into Coma Mode", meaning the power light will go out as if I shutdown my Mini. I press the power button in the back and it wakes up, the screen comes on where I left it and is completely grey and then it clears up and I have to wait for the USB power to come back on as well as my mouse is frozen.

I'm not sure if this is a Bug or a feature?

I've checked all of the folder/file permissions, the system is the only one with read/write. I can't even paste a replacement .icns file into the Resources folder, as paste seems to be disabled (it doesn't even pop up in the contextual menu). :(

Click the (+) when inspecting permissions. Might need to click the lock.

I'm on MacOs 10.13.5 beta, and i do not see any security update available in my appstore. Is the security update already bundled in the 10.13.5 beta? Actually if i am on these beta versions, once the official OS version is released, i do not see them as well, is that the intended behaviour?

please help me understand. Thanks.

After installation and upon reboot with normal login procedure the machine went back to the installation script showing the Error Console and Log and halted. "Installation cannot be completed"

After a few reboots with the same error I noticed that there is an option in the Menu, think under the :apple: that allowed for choosing Start-up disk.

Seemed to me my normal disk was selected but I selected it again and rebooted. Now things works normal.

The setup process on tha App Store could be improved quite a lot. After choosing the option to update, the download commenced and so did the install. After a while the Update button changed to a greyed out ‘Installed’ indicator. This was not true, because it was still beavering away, and the update did not move to the recently updated section. After some considerable period of time (multiple minutes) with me fretting if things had got stuck, it finally informed me that a reboot was required. At which time it did the install proper. It should not say something is installed when it is only partially installed. It should say ‘Installing’.

Apple today released a new security update for macOS High Sierra 10.13.4, which comes nearly one month after the first version of macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 was released to the public.

The new macOS High Sierra security update can be downloaded directly from the Mac App Store or through the Software Update function in the Mac App Store on all compatible Macs that are already running macOS High Sierra.

According to Apple's release notes, Security Update 2018-001 is recommended for all users and is meant to improve the security of macOS. The update addresses two security vulnerabilities related to Crash Reporter and LinkPresentation, both of which could be used maliciously to gain access to a Mac. A Safari 11.1 update is also included, with fixes for WebKit vulnerabilities.

Additional information on what's included in the security update can be found in the accompanying support document.

Used the App update to install with no problems. Seems both my MacAir 2013 and MacPro 2013 are faster. Seems more than just security updates, probably with a few fixes.

Nice!

Anyone know if they fixed the opening the lid of a Macbook bug? Where the screen would freeze until you close and open again.

Updated my 2009 MBP with no problems, now doing my late 2012 iMac and its stuck at the start of the 'installing software update' screen, not moved in over 45 min and the fan is very quite, no noise from the iMac or its external USB HDDs.

Should I just leave it be?

UPDATE - pulled the plugs... unplugged the USB Hubs and 13 external HDDs. Held in the power button to shut it down. Then turned it back on, logged in. And started the install again from the App Store.

Seems to work as its not installing with about 35 min to go... 34 now!

Surely they also fixed a few bugs that they know are there, so they were embarrassed to mention. Or they didn't fix it and the software lately is just that bad.
Another Russian bot?

Wow, 1GB. That’s one heck of a security update.
And WHERE did you find THAT info?

Sounding old here but I remember when updates came on floppies and you'd get them in magazines every few months LOL
That was when the processor speed was measured in kilobytes and storage and RAM were in MB. :D

Would you please update after proofreading what you posted? "Seems to work as its not installing"???

Installing this update caused my 2011 MacBook Pro to boot to a black screen. I had to reset the SMC to resolve the issue.

This happened to me, twice. Resetting the SMC resolved the issue of the black screen, but it appears that the update was not installed. My Build # is 17E199. Any suggestions? I have a 2015 15" MacBook Pro.

And WHERE did you find THAT info?

Well, when the article was posted I eagerly opened the App Store on my Mac and began the download, licking my lips in anticipation for the newest OS patch.

As it began downloading, I noticed the size of the update was exactly 1.0GB. My face pouted slightly and I gave my stubble a quizzical stroke, noting at that point that I should probably invest in a new razor.

"Security Updates which are in the same x.x.x version are historically quite small", I told myself. "They're not normally 1GB. How odd!"

As if by magic, the trackpad gravitated back to the MacRumors Safari tab and I publicly mused my confusion in the very comment you are quoting.

Does this help?

I've already checked that. macOS won't allow it.

It just says I don't have permissions. It is pretty much locked down now. :(
Safari is protected by System Integrity Protection now. I'm not sure when that change happened, but it was before this security update.

Don't. You're lucky your Mac can support latest OS. Sorry you can't remove some apps now, but System Integrity Protection potential benefits well worth this.
Also before downgrading make sure your favourite browser supports the old version. Browsers now drop old OS X support.

You’re probably causing it to fail. Stop interrupting the update. Just start it and walk away for an hour.

Thanks, but I walked away from it for 2 hours the first time and 3 hours for the second time. Not quite seeing why a security update should take that long to, um, update.

I had to give it the dreaded 1 finger extended salute and then on restart it booted and gave me the option restart and update again. It succeeded the second time. Mine was hung right off the bat so thankfully it was able to recover.

Ok. I should have said maybe instead of probably. I do think some problems are caused by impatience.
