I'm at work and won't be able to check until later, but can anyone confirm if this allows stereo HomePod support from the Mac? Not in iTunes, but as 'system output'? I would love to use my stereo HomePods from the Mac

I wonder if this will have a fix for the gmail bug in Mail - hope so!

The bug was server-side and resolved by Google after a day or two. At least that was my experience. I have one Gmail account setup with IMAP and it's not giving me the infinite-login issue that said bug involved. However, the account is always offline unless I make it go online, which is annoying.

When it comes to supporting standards, Google can take a long walk off a short plank. IMAP is supported by thousands of email providers, but Google can't (or doesn't want to) get it right.

im guessing you meant HomePods... and i agree with that!
that's basically the only big thing I'm missing from MacOS at this point. I annoyingly have to AirPlay from my phone, and then use Spotify Connect on my Mac to control the music. Convoluted to say the least.

Haven't noticed anything like this in the 13 years I've used the mail.app for my gmail.

How do you have your account configured? Via the "Google" setup, or via IMAP?

It seems to be the IMAP setup that's problematic. I'm experiencing this daily "offline" issue since the release of 10.14.4. It was really bad immediately after the release, with an infinite-login issue preventing use of accounts. The issue eventually reduced down to just the account being offline unless you told it to go online. That's my current experience. My dozen other IMAP accounts (hosted elsewhere) work fine, only the Google-hosted account is being a nuisance. It worked properly before 10.14.4.

After awhile, macOS Mail app fails to maintain connection with Gmail server.

I’ve been seeing this. Possibly indeed since the .5 betas.

I wonder if there's a hidden agenda? A sneaky attempt to annoy Mac users into removing the account and accessing Gmail directly? I've had to do that with one of my accounts already. I have a dozen other IMAP accounts hosted at other providers that work just fine, and with Google's history of doing whatever they please, I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't a tactic.

So I installed this on my MBP, it restarted the computer 3 times (I thought it was 4...) which I thought was totally bizarre. I installed it on a loaner Mac, did the same thing, but I saw the firmware update screen.

Apparently there was a security fix for EFI, so this is normal. Really hope it doesn't freak out too many end users here

EDIT: It was 4 restarts. Jeez!

Re: gmail issue: to me, not fixed. I have seen where I have a very fleeting failed connection. Usually when deleting email or emptying the mail trash. See the little "disconnected" item flash for a moment and then back to normal.

Still seeing with this new update.

Only time see big time failed connection is after a wake from sleep. But even then, rarely.

My system is also reporting a "iTunes Device Support Update" that is available when checking for updates. Does the "macOS 10.14.5 Update" include this as well? Basically wondering if I can just install the 10.14.5 update to get both updates, or if I actually need to select both of them.

Regarding the gmail, it's been working for me for 1 hour 30 minutes so far, which is better than ever before (since 10.14.4). Probably curse myself with this post though.

Since it's not fixed, others probably more knowledgeable than I, believe it is a Google issue not Apple. Some say Apple is trying some work around when they call support but ultimately the issue is with Google on the server side.

I hope it finally fixes the T2-related issue(s).

Me too since the update for quite a few hours now - Mail is even opening at random like it always used to (Something to do with Gmail Calendars I believe...) - it had stopped doing that since the previous update when the bug first showed up.

Would much rather have the random openings than not getting notified about Mail. Much better.

Not seeing this issue at all with 10.14.5... it was an issue for me with 10.14.4.

Anyone else having issues with updating? After about 2 minutes it errors out saying the connection has been lost. (Happening on 4 different Macs, all my iOS devices updated just fine).

I've updated two Macs (2015 iMac, 2018 MBP) without issue.

I only noticed this once after not touching my MacBook for almost a month. I contacted AppleCare and they did something because it never happened again. My wife’s MacBook and my work MacBook Pro have never had an issue with accessing the gmail mail server.
