Apple today released macOS Monterey 12.4, the fourth major update to the macOS Monterey operating system that launched in October 2021. macOS Monterey 12.4 comes over two months after the launch of macOS Monterey 12.3, an update that added Universal Control.

The ‌‌‌‌‌macOS Monterey‌‌ 12.4 update can be downloaded on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Preferences. Apple has also released a macOS Big Sur 11.6.6 update for those who are still running Big Sur, as well as a macOS Catalina 2022-004 security update.

Following the macOS Monterey 12.4 and iPadOS 15.5 updates, Universal Control is no longer in beta. It is now an official feature that Apple has deemed issue-free, and the beta labeling has been removed. Universal Control was introduced in March and it allows you to use a single mouse/trackpad and keyboard across multiple Macs and iPads.

For the Studio Display, macOS Monterey 12.4 adds support for the 15.5 firmware, which is designed to improve the webcam quality.

There's also an update for the Podcasts app, with Apple adding a setting that limits the number of episodes stored on a Mac and automatically deletes older ones.

New MacOS updates always welcome. Hope it is bug-free and snappier! Any news from real world users on whether the Mac Studio Display's webcam quality has really been improved?

Hopefully this fixes the issue some are having with using Synology as a Time Machine target.

Hope it fixes the Do Not Disturb bug where in Dark Mode the text is impossible to read/there's a "drop shadow" effect. I'll install it tonight, along with iOS 15.5 on my iPad/iPhone.

I hope there are no issues during the installation. I remember during the Big Sur 11.3 update it just randomly showed the login screen and asked for a password, then did the spinning beach ball. Had to do a complete reinstall for that to be fixed. Hope that doesn't happen this time...

I still only get 12.3.1 as latest.
Sometimes take a little bit to filter down to all. Last number I see 100 million + Macs in use!

Side question for others. I'm still on Big Sur. Is this worth updating to now. I'm a casual user, no real specific app requirements.

Safari's Speedometer result after updating is 337, Google Chrome's most recent version is at 297. This is on a M1 Max.

I’m still on Big Sur, will upgrade after 12.5 is released. M1 Macs have been rock solid, the only problem I’ve experienced is from Mozilla Firefox, it kills battery life.
