And that LLMs and ML has been part of the macOS/iOS experience for at least a decade with most of us and possibly you enjoying the fruits of it, has also been a part of this whole experience.

I have yet to hear anyone y so strongly complaint about the new watchOS 11 sleep apnoea feature, and so many other OS features based on ML we've had for years. If you don't want it, you turn it off in the settings, just as you can with Apple Intelligence, with the most parts off as default, at least for now - who knows if that will still be possible with macOS 20 ;)

And for sure, LLMs, ML and AI are different things really, but that discussion can be taken to absurdity. Are we really surprised that Apple now does its usual marketing Spiel with Apple Intelligence, as it does with all other new introduction of them being the most awesome, most powerful ever and what not ever?

I turned off categories in Mail immediately, because I didn't like it, no need to make a fuss about, but it still makes me chuckle when I can now ask Siri "Create an image with ChatGPT of grumpy old men in front of of their old computers" to get

The fact that it comes up automatically with all white guys is a different matter and does show that ML training is still very racially and socially biased - in my opinion the biggest problem of LLMs, ML, marketed as AI at the moment.

I find Microsoft designer AI generation much better than apples.. Here are 4 I got (yes still white guys but at least they are facing the computers and on keyboards)

But shouldn't we use it to be able to point out such shortcomings, instead of rejecting it from start?

Much as we use macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS … knowing full well that there will be bugs in them, which we ideally report and then hope for them to be fixed in future iterations.

And they do as well with ChatGPT when being more specific in the request ;)

Tried to update, but my M3 Max MacBook Pro locked up and restarted. Only a few apps were running at the time, and have never had an issue like this before. "It Just Works" Apple is long dead...

Best to start up in safe mode from off to minimize some app extensions causing an issue.

On a Mac with Apple silicon

  1. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the power button when you see the startup options screen, which shows your startup disks and a gear icon labeled Options.
  3. From this window you can start up from a different disk, start up in safe mode, use macOS Recovery, and more.

So uh, is anybody else having issues with CMD-tab after this update? I thought maybe the laptop keyboard was going weird, but it happens on my Model F as well. It's like... if it's been a couple minutes since you last used it, your first invocation of cmd-tab doesn't work. Then it works fine for a while, you do something, and the next time you try to do it it doesn't work the first try.

I've disabled everything with input monitoring, automation, and accessibility access (and quit any applications having anything remotely to do with input) and still an issue.

Am I losing it?

Very stupid implementation of chatGPT...
On paper this would be excellent, but there's no rhyme or reason in the way apple decides when the GPT assistance is needed.

Most of the time I get useless google searches, and I have to type the same request 4 or 5 times before it asks me if I want to use GPT, probably out of pity...
Yeah, this isn’t consistent. But if you always want to use, or know when you want an answer from, ChatGPT, just say “Ask ChatGPT” before your query or question.

Anyone updated to 15.2 on their Intel Mac like a 2019 MBP 16"? Any noticeable issues or should I wait until mid January to upgrade?

Updated a 13 inch MacBook Intel Pro no problems that were serious. It seem to have hung after starting install in the message will take several minutes and restart several times and I had to reboot the computer and then it got out of that state and finnished the install so there was that. All is fine though in end
