Apple today released macOS Sonoma 14.2.1, a minor update to the macOS Sonoma operating system that initially came out in late September. macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 comes shortly after the launch of macOS Sonoma 14.2, a major update that brought new widgets, enhanced AutoFill, Messages tweaks, and more.

The ‌‌macOS Sonoma 14.2.1‌ update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Settings.

According to Apple's release notes, macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 includes bug fixes and a security update. macOS 14.2.1 fixes a screen sharing vulnerability that could cause a user to unintentionally share the incorrect content.

Apple is already testing macOS Sonoma 14.3, an update that we are expecting to see released sometime in January.

Does anyone if Monterey has received any update? At least older iOS version (iOS 16) has received an additional update.

Maybe, aside from bug fixes, it includes security patches. If so, I’ll wait until the next update of Monterey is available to perform my yearly clean install.

  • What are these "important bug fixes and security updates"? And,
  • Why is this update "recommended for all users"?
That’s basically the wording they have used for decades. You can usually find out what many of the updates are if you poke around a bit.

I am so tired of beta testing apple's operating systems.. yearly releases are bull$
You can always choose to delay upgrading to the latest major versions of the OS. x.2 releases are generally very solid. I am not sure what 14.2.1 fixes, but I for one, appreciates a timely release of bug fixes. No software is perfect that it remains free of major bugs.

Turns out it is a security update but it fixes a specific bug in 14.2. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT214048
Thank you, it seems the security patch is centered on WindowServer process, more specifically in the screen share feature. Due to screen sharing being a highly redesigned feature in Sonoma, maybe this update will remain exclusive to the current operating system.
