It fixed a major problem for me. I was having issues with Lightroom Classic. When I tried to import pictures from my iPhone, the iPhone would not show up in the import menu as an option, even though I can see it in finder and import into other apps like Photos. Now it is fixed. Thanks Apple.
Hmmh, I airdrop photos from my iPhone to my Mac, moved them to the desired folder and then import, been doing it this way ever since I started using LRC (after Aperture), never had an issue

The 14.2.1 update also fixes some bugs introduced in 14.2 which affects Adobe Lightroom and other apps that allow tethering with cameras.
For years now, I have felt that the best fix for Adobe related problems is to remove all the Adobe software and replace it with software that's not from Adobe. But, that's just me. ;)

These bugs didn't only affect Adobe apps.

You can always choose to delay upgrading to the latest major versions of the OS. x.2 releases are generally very solid. I am not sure what 14.2.1 fixes, but I for one, appreciates a timely release of bug fixes. No software is perfect that it remains free of major bugs.

I skipped Ventura and was constantly updating Monterrey right up until Sonoma released..

Just bought today a MacBook Pro M3 Pro (11 core model with 18GB RAM) and did this macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 update and have not experienced any issues. Hope others are finding 14.2.1 stable for them.

That's a good attitude. I remember when Adobe, friend of Apple, refused to re-work Premiere for Mac OS X. However, Microsoft, enemy of Apple, brought all of their products to Mac OS X, including a web browser.

I haven't used Adobe products since before Creative Suite became a thing. Serif's Affinity line works well and Capture One Pro is much better than what Adobe has.

No doubt that the camera-tethering issue was everywhere, but still, no Adobe applications means less stress.

Try OpenCore Legacy Patcher. I'm running Catalina on my 2008 Mac Pro and Ventura on my 2010 MBP 15.
As someone who has OpenCore on my 2012 Mac Pro I would say there is no reason at all to go over Monterey on an old Intel system. Some of the new features in the OS are not even available to Intel machines. Stick with Monterey, there is nothing to look forward to as I see it. From reports I have read, Ventura is even slower than Monterey and Sonoma is not going to offer benefits to Intel machines either. These OSs are being catered to Apple Silicon now, with that performance in mind

If an Intel Mac can run native with Sonoma it might run fast and well, but may not have all of the new features. I have a MacBook Pro 2018 i9, 32 GB RAM 1TB SSD and it seems to be fast with no issues.

I also have a MacBook 12" 2015 and have run OpenCore with Ventura and it it runs fast with an occasional issue, but overall makes the old Mac run in 2023.

I believe it just depends on your system. I would try out various OS's and see which one works well with your workflow.

Or do like I do: Update to the new operating system towards the end of the cycle, in may, during the WWDC, or even after the release of the next macOS.

I have been doing that for the last major versions of iOS and macOS and so far, so good

This is the correct answer. I always fall for the lure of new features but most of them don’t work properly until at least .2 or so anyway.

I more often than not get “20 minutes remaining…” and then it’s done in 5 ;)
I agree, these estimates are not very helpful anymore…

They never have been. This is about Windows XP and it was an old joke then. XP was especially bad and visible to a broad audience, but time remaining estimations have always basically been rough guesses.

“A user who shares their screen may unintentionally share the incorrect content”

Maybe they inadvertently allowed someone to take a screenshot from an Apple TV. That would definitely require millions of users to update.
No, it was an actual problem where you'd share random windows from other spaces:

Hello, thanks for al the information in this thread

Unfortunately, after restarting my macbook pro m3 to update to 14.2.1 the process ended in a black window that could not recover from it 😥

After waiting for an hour I decided to shutdown the laptop holding the power button for several seconds

Now, each time I start the laptop I don't see the black window anymore and I can type my user password. The issue now is that after typing the right password, the login process gets stuck. The loading bar gets stuck more or less at 55% or 60% of the process

I am desperate and asking for some help. Does someone suggest some actions to try to fix it?

Thanks in advance

Things I tried was:
  • The laptop was plugged into the power supply and the battery fully charged
  • After several shutdowns and trials, I already tried to reset NVRAM. Nothing changed, issue remains
At this point, I don't know how to proceed

The update didn't show up on my Macbook Pro 2012 with Sonoma 14.2 installed using Opencore. I had to manually download and install the full installer pkg.
