I've given up asking developers to include proper changelog notes. The number of big names that copy-paste the same boilerplate text into each update blows my mind.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Even Apple has been neglecting to include changelog notes. 14.6.1 didn't come with any... hmm.

Here are the installers:

14.6.1 build 23G93

13.8.9 build 22G830

Maybe they forgot monterey for now. They shouldn't cease updates for monterey till sequoia is released, so we should still expect monterey to get an update too, despite there being no Advanced Data Protection in monterey.

This isn't a security update and Monterey never supported Advanced Data Protection so there's no reason for there to be an update.
So it is probably only the ADP fix, and nothing more? In that case, yes, it wouldn’t make sense to release an update for Monterey.

Oops. Apple you should have better software validation teams before releasing macOS updates please. Have you been hiring former CrowdStrike engineers Apple?

Hilarious stuff given the horrible, horrible inconvenience of clicking a button and rebooting to get the upate.

Well they also said bug fixes too, not just ADP. So there should be a monterey update, maybe not today, but eventually yes

No need to be snarky. Not everyone likes rebooting their computers every week. I typically have stuff running for a long time and a second update needing a reboot within a week is a pain.

I would also add that not all OSes require rebooting for every update. I maintain some Linux boxes that systematically get months of uptime, and still get updated frequently. Except kernel updates, few updates require a reboot. Most OS components can be updated without a reboot.

14.6 was bugged out on WD Black SN850x. Kernel panics. Some init thread crashing. But updating the disk's firmware fixed the issue, I submitted several bug reports. I wonder if they were addressed?

Its really ridiculous. And then they act like we're the morons for not installing an update that *checks notes*, apparently does nothing.

Usually, I install an all-new MacOs version when it gets to X.6. So when version 14.6 (Sonoma) came out, I decided to leave Ventura behind and move to Sonoma. And even more in this Apple transition to only Apple Silicon, where Intel machines' performance is not the priority. What happened is that my Macbook Pro 15" 2018 machine became unbearable slow.

So I had to format my machine and install the last Ventura version that came along with the Sonoma update. Now my Mac runs OK again.

CONCLUSION: I don't recommend to anyone who has an Intel Mac to install Sonoma on their computers.

After 14.6 I had a persistent Family Sharing notification to complete setup. No matter what I did it wouldn’t go away. Happy to report after updating both iOS 17.6.1 and macOS to 14.6.1 the notification is gone. First time I’ve been pleasantly surprised that an obvious issue I was experiencing was fixed with an update.

I’m running 14.6.1 on a 2019 MBP with Core i9, 32GB, 2TB, and Vega 20 and run a number of Win 11 VMs concurrently and haven’t noticed a performance hit. Mileage may vary though.

Apple makes some really stupid mistakes. They really try to keep those hidden. If people knew, Apple would not be the shiny popular hardware and software that Cook depends on for his ego gratification.

It seems that a bad Screen Sharing bug from 14.6.0 is gone.

Going to give it a day or two before I rest easy though.
