Ok, I've been trying to enable ADP for a while. I've been signing in and out of all my devices, making new keys, removing devices from Find My.

Only to find out it was a bug. Thanks for the heads up Apple (and you forum folks).

I've given up asking developers to include proper changelog notes. The number of big names that copy-paste the same boilerplate text into each update blows my mind.

Same thing that's happened to so much of software development lately. So many good practices abandoned. A few people decided "what happens if we just don't?" and it turns out the answer is "nothing." There's no accountability.

Damn kids on my lawn.

So, if macOS 12 doesn’t have this Advanced Data Protection, what happens if I enable it on my iPhone and iPad runnung iOS 17? I won’t have access to iCloud data from my Mac running Monterey?

Still getting the ghost Updates Available notification on 14.6.1 even though there aren't any
I was getting those too. I didn’t realize it was a thing/didn’t search for it. Will keep an eye out for it on the new update.

Holy smokes! You mean a computer company, Apple, released an OS update that wasn't 100% perfect in all aspects?

What's this world coming to?

No need to be snarky. Not everyone likes rebooting their computers every week. I typically have stuff running for a long time and a second update needing a reboot within a week is a pain.

I would also add that not all OSes require rebooting for every update. I maintain some Linux boxes that systematically get months of uptime, and still get updated frequently. Except kernel updates, few updates require a reboot. Most OS components can be updated without a reboot.
Okay, that was too snarky. I often reboot mine on a Friday, if I remember correctly. Perhaps it's an old habit, but I have very few issues. Given how fast an M1 reboots, it's a non-issue.

I downloaded it and clicked to install it TWICE. The laptop rebooted, check the version, still 14.6

They are an absolute joke. Since Federighi took over the software is total rubbish. Why can't they hire professional software developers instead of people out of high school that think about Memojis????

You clicked to install it twice and it didn't. Meanwhile, I apparently only need to click once to install it twice (14" M1 MBP). And some people claim Apple's software quality is slipping ...

Oops. Apple you should have better software validation teams before releasing macOS updates please. Have you been hiring former CrowdStrike engineers Apple?
Does "validation" prevent all bugs?

Since Federighi took over the software is total rubbish.
They never had to pull releases and issue hot fixes in Snow Leopard. Oh wait, they did. Three times.

Same for me. Macbook (intel) rebooted, still 14.6 and 14.6.1 offered again. At least it not bricked the machine.

EDIT: the second install succeeded. The same happened on my iphone 13 mini: yesterday installed 17.6.1, today morning 17.6.1 offered again, and this time finally installed. Strange.

I was confused because there is only one week between 14.6 and 14.6.1. So I installed 14.6/14.6.1 within 1.5 half day both on mac and iphone and wrongly assumed I installed the same release twice. This is the "beloved" windows update experience, let's hope never happens again

For my Hackintosh i remember that after the 14.6 Update MacOS was not requiring a new blessing of the NVME after activating SecureBootModel in OpenCore again.

After the 14.6.1 Update i had to bless my NVME like normal 1 time. I also could not directly connect via ScreenSharing. I had to switch it off and on in the SystemSettings then it worked again directly.

My MBA M2 only showed the 14.6 Update on the 7th of August and i was greeted with the 14.6.1 this Morning immediately :)

So i would guess there could be a serious security issue with 14.6.

Here are the installers:

14.6.1 build 23G93

13.8.9 build 22G830

Maybe they forgot monterey for now. They shouldn't cease updates for monterey till sequoia is released, so we should still expect monterey to get an update too, despite there being no Advanced Data Protection in monterey.

Which one of these will fully reinstall MacOS without losing data and erasing settings?

Shocker!

No accountability, yet more corporations are filled with Compliance, Governance and Transparency policies.
Oh the irony of humans using language and processes to simply cover up and deflect responsibility.
It's almost like we do it deliberately, oh wait, we do, its called laziness and zero-desire to take the fall.

Still, HR departments get paid ££££ for it, and marketers / board presenters get clapped for it, so they are happy about it all

You’ll probably either be logged out on your Mac or not be able to enable it until you log out. I think I remember the latter happening. Something like, “Unsupported devices on your account so it can’t be enabled”

Many thanks. It’s about time to upgrade my 2014 Mac mini. The M4 Mac refresh can’t come any sooner…

The Update installed without problems. But it seems, that it has removed the VMWare startup items from /Library/LaunchDaemons. Interestingly, other items are still present in this folder, very strange.

Hilarious stuff given the horrible, horrible inconvenience of clicking a button and rebooting to get the upate.
I'm trying to prep hundreds of laptops with the latest macOS and this is a huge pain in my butt. You might want to consider putting yourself in others' shoes.
