Apple today released macOS Tahoe 26.0.1, the first update to the macOS Tahoe operating system that came out earlier this month.

macOS Tahoe 26.0.1 can be downloaded through the Software Update section of the System Settings app.

According to Apple's release notes, macOS Tahoe 26.0.1 addresses a bug that was preventing Mac Studio machines with an M3 Ultra chip from being upgraded to macOS Tahoe. A failed hardware check was causing macOS Tahoe installation attempts to be aborted, with Mac Studio users ultimately stuck on macOS Sequoia.

Mac Studio users who were unable to install macOS Tahoe should now be able to.

If you were on 15.6 or the Tahoe developer/public betas with the M3 Ultra, then you could upgrade to the final build of Tahoe.
The bug was introduced if you installed 15.7 prior to the Tahoe final build.

I checked for this update minutes after it was publicly released (I think before MacRumors even posted about it), downloaded and installed it on my MacBook Pro. Looked like it was 9.X something GB. Looks like user Promostyle said it was 9.63 GB earlier in this thread.

A few minutes later, I checked for this update on an iMac and it didn't show any update, it just said macOS 26.0 is up to date. It took a few minutes to show up on that computer, and when it did, it looked like a 10.X GB update.

Is there a chance Apple initially posted an update, pulled it due to some issue, then posted it again with the fix?

Since 26.0, I've had repeatable Maps crashes. Searching for EV Charging Stations (search nearby) shows a series of charge points on the map. But after individually clicking on them to see details, Maps will crash. Typically, just a handful of examinations is enough to crash it.

C.a. 7.4 GB on M1 Max Mac Studio, have not installed it on other Macs yet. But. my word.... such a large update for a x.0.1 fix...
On my iPhone 16 Pro, the iOS 26.0.1 was around 680 MB.

Mine said something similar, but then stopped downloading at 1.76 GB and started the preparing process. Something weird there.
I had something very similar on both Macs I installed it on (a MacBook Pro and an iMac) -- it showed a 9.X and 10.X GB download respectively -- then the download stopped around 1.6-1.75 GB for each machine and immediately advanced to the Preparing stage. I think this behavior is actually normal.

The size file they ended up downloading is pretty normal, but it is unusual for macOS to display the wrong total file size.

MacOS Tahoe was released earlier this week? The only fix is for the M3 Ultra?

This article is… confusing

Ha nice catch, I wonder if they drafted this post for a possible release last Friday, which some people were anticipating.

I haven’t experienced any issues with Tahoe other than the unnecessarily large corner radius for windows.
If you have any videos loaded on the Mac. The TV app crashes after a search shows your results. You click on the results and it crashes.
