- Windows now occasionally "flicker" when transitioning from active to inactive and vice versa. (New and exciting!)

Wait, is this something new? I’ve been experiencing this on my M4 iMac for about a month and thought the display was failing. It most often occurs when bringing up a window that had been minimized. It’ll flicker 1-2 seconds, but not always.

It's also happening on my non-Apple 240Hz display. I just tried it with minimizing and bringing back my browser window. I never noticed it before. Now I can't unsee it again. 🙈

My M4 iMac seems to have been doing this since the Tahoe update, and it seems to be related to HDR images (it does it a lot in Photos and Safari). I also noticed that changing brightness using the keys produced a similar flickering effect compared to the normal smooth transition. I used the Developer menu in Safari to disable HDR and it seems to have stopped it happening in there.

The brightness change seems to be smooth since the 26.2 update so I'm interested to see if the rest of the flickering goes away or becomes less noticeable.

I have a 240Hz OLED display. And it's happening even when HDR is completely turned off. I just tried it a few times with this tab open in LibreWolf without changing anything. It didn't happen every time. Maybe one out of 3-4.

It's even worse without HDR.

Edge Light, a feature that illuminates your face with soft light when you're on a video call in a room with poor lighting.

'do my edges look good in this?' I would have called it iHalo, much more on-brand.

Hm interesting - I'm not even sure the iMac M4s have HDR capable panels (there is no setting to disable HDR system wide) so maybe something else is at play.

Some comments sound as if we were talking about an alpha version of macOS.
TBH, I feel like I'm still using a beta during one of those "rough times" releases.. It's going to be some time before anything comes to try and save the day, too. Dealing with some major issues still and over the holidays. Not fun.

Not for nothing, that doesn't seem the general opinion is largely positive with Tahoe. I'm not on Tahoe, so I cannot say one way or another but I see a more balanced perspective on other social media platforms.

I know there is generally a "this is the worst Mac OS ever" wave of opinions at launch but I don't remember as many stupid bugs or glaring UX regressions in a new version of Mac OS since 10.3, and that made up for it by being a lot faster than the previous one.
I agree.. I'm a very old school Mac user and supporter, and have still pushed through during the really bad times.. These recent updates, though, have left our entire family's set of iPhones to no longer work with CarPlay in either of our cars. I basically can't use the Photos app on my main use computer. I'm also finding out that maybe a bunch of files and documents on that same main use computer are not elsewhere? maybe? Who knows! It's a Christmas mystery I guess.

- Clicking SMB shares in the Finder sidebar still reports "“” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found." instead of reconnecting. Not fixed. (Present since initial release.)

Came here to see if this was fixed. Apparently not. The best part of Apple bugs is they hardly acknowledge them. When you trail Microsoft in communication and transparency is when you know you're doing it wrong.

Mac OS Tahoe runs warm, heavy, on my M4 Max MBP. I hope this update runs better?
What version are you on? .1 or .0? I just recently updated from 15 to 26.1 and it’s been fine, mostly. I only did it to get spatial voice memos to work across devices and get cpu improvements.

Both .0 and .1. I notice the machine is warm even sitting still. I don't much on it, other than Adobe Photoshop being the only 3rd party app. Even that opens way slower now.

Will see how it is in .2

Thanks for the info. I updated to 26.2 last night and will keep an eye on this.

This broke TimeMachine over a network... I'm not the only one... jeez Apple, get it together.

I'm seeing this issue, too. I've ended up just using my wired drive for Time Machine backups now.. Whenever this DOES end up working again, I'm sure that first wireless backup will take forever lol
