I can just as easily used SIri or spotlight search to open specific system setting hierarchy. The reason they went to a vertical style is obvious that they intend to grow the amount of configuration options MacOS provides and also because it works better on smaller size screens then the older icon based grouping of setting categories each with its own hierarchy.
I think the only reason they did it was so it becomes more iOS/iPad OS like.
We all heard the rumours that they’re planning to integrate these systems eventually.
but In terms of ease of use / practicality, it’s definitely a big step backwards.

I’m with you. I’m also still rocking OS 12. From what I’m reading in this thread, Ventura must be avoided in all cost.
I've been running Ventura since it was still in Beta.

I have not encountered any issues with it (except on my unsupported Mac), but to be fair, both of the officially supported Macs I'm using it on are Apple Silicon.

It's possible a lot of the issues are device dependent.

I really like Ventura 13.2 :(
With Ventura 13.0 my brand new iMac had constant kernel panic crashes every 3 - 8 hours. With Ventura 13.1 the crashes were gone. With Ventura 13.2 the crashes are back although not as frequent as with 13.0. Now my iMac crashes once per day on average.

That’s not gonna work, unless you want Apple and their partner to have your VPN credentials.
That's not the problem I'm talking about. Starting with 13.1, or maybe with 13, having ever used a VPN leaves a trail that causes iCloud Private Relay to not only not start, but also cause the entire Apple ID section to be extremely laggy. It will take minutes to navigate each screen, and it frequently crashes.

Also, I'd take it even if it did mean what you say. Idc about VPN. I only use it to not let my ISP see what I'm doing.

I don't see this behavior and use VPNs in Ventura quite regularly, along with Private Relay.

actually using it less frequently (like majority) is more problematic because you have too keep looking and seraching for what you need in this cramped nest of rows and menus, whereas it used to be done very easily by just taking a look.
I've been using Macs since Snow Leopard days..it's just backwards.
I feel you.

Yet why not use Universal Search? To me that's my bread and butter in macOS, iOS and iPadOS - never fails me when looking for something the core OS has that I need.

It wasn't an issue with all of them. NordVPN users were unaffected, as was anyone not using a 3rd party app.

But it's fixed for me at least in 13.2.
