Mine cost $199 (US) when I ordered it with my ac Studio M1 Max. Based on my online research the battery is not replaceable when it gives up the ghost. Does anyone know if that’s the case. If so it’s another argument for right to repair.
I'm always in favor of repairability. Built-in lithium batteries are actually a bit troubling and generally I'd prefer AAs or AAAs so I can use rechargable -- or at the very least a modular battery that can be serviced later on.

For what it's worth, though, you can also use it as a wired keyboard by plugging in a Lightning cable. I assume that still would work with a dead battery?

Mine says 1.4.8 - seems a long way behind 2.0.6. I suppose I just have to wait for the planets to align or something.

What I wish would happen is that Apple releases a backlit extended bluetooth keyboard..
1.4.7 here. :( I feel so left behind. On the bright side, after plugging it in and forgetting all about this, the firmware is showing 2.0.6 after unplugging it. All's well that ends well!

I wish they'd release a fix for the price - I want a new one with the TouchID but blimey its $230 here in Canada.
i spilled coffee on mine and the space bar was sticky ever since. got a logitech mx keyboard and its ten times better... no touch ID i know but its way better and has backlit keys

I have one of the older, squared-off MKB and I just watched as the firmware changed from 2.0.1 to 2.0.6, so it's also for the older rechargeable MKBs, too.

Yay I get to update my keyboard!

I wonder what the new features are, the better typing experience? USB-C Port? Idk lol...
Yeah, I can't wait to see updated versions of the kb and mouse with USB-C ports (and with the port in the proper spot unlike the Magic Mouse 2)

Those and the AirPods Max are the things currently preventing me from getting rid of any Lightning cables I have

Will check whether Magic Keyboards for both my iMacs are updated. Glad to hear that the security flaw has been fixed.

Oh? Interesting! Which Logitech keyboard is as good and is backlit?
MX keys. Lack of TouchID isn't an issue if you have an Apple Watch for easy login/system change approvals. Only thing that sucks is you have to use the USB wireless dongle as Apple only allows their BT keyboards to login to a system for reasons.

Apple on Tuesday released Magic Keyboard firmware version 2.0.6 with a fix for a Bluetooth-related security vulnerability.

"An attacker with physical access to the accessory may be able to extract its Bluetooth pairing key and monitor Bluetooth traffic," an Apple support document says.

The firmware update is available for various Magic Keyboard models for the Mac, including the standard Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad.

Magic Keyboard firmware updates are automatically installed while the keyboard is paired to a device running macOS, iOS, iPadOS, or tvOS, with no way to manually apply an update. To check a Magic Keyboard's firmware version on a Mac, open the System Settings app, click Bluetooth, and click on the info button next to your keyboard.

Apple's full security disclosure:This is the first firmware update for some Magic Keyboard models in several years, according to MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.

Can they make it such that the TouchID actually works?

Literally everytime I wake up my MBP with this keyboard I have to input my password. TouchID just collecting dust. And yes, it's set to unlock my computer with TouchID.

I guess there is no way to check firmware version on iPadOS as I have dedicated my second Magic Keyboard for my iPad Pro?

and y is my keyboard version 8.5.2? do I need to update it?
