My opinion is it’s just slightly more bass (so essentially the same).

The bass is less than before or at least they changed the signature of the sound. Sounds worse

"hey siri, play the latest news" ... it does for 15 seconds ... then stops ... tried this 15 times ... same 15 results ... tried changing my news source ... CNN, fox news, NPR ... all the same ... plays for 15 seconds ... then stops

Yes! It fixed it! HomeKit commands are now instant again.

My HomePod also had an issue with it going hard of hearing for no reason. Sometimes my HomePod could hear me whispering from across the room, other times I would have to shout at it while standing a couple of metres away. Both of these problems are now fixed.

Yep! Same here. Was tired of the “getting in touch”. I thought it was my WiFi, nope. Software. Everything is instant now.

Unfortunately this is back. It’s definitely a bug. Over time, HomePod gradually gets hard of hearing to the point that I have to shout at it from a few feet away. Unplugging it and restarting fixes it for a week or two.

I suspect it has to do with the HomePod’s situational adjustments. It may be overcompensating for echos or something and eventually starts ignoring speech.
