The buggy Homepod should either not have been released or be $99. Can't recall how many hours I've spent trying to update it. The multi-user support couldn't be less intuitive and following Apple's support page instructions on how to enable and use it has yet to work properly. It's also sad that Siri remains a beta-level product which isn't much better than when the 4S was released, what 8 years ago? Apple seems determined to remain the joke of the voice-based personal assistant world.
Hopefully this restores the ability to use them as an output for the Apple TV.
But the speakers do seem to sound better post update.
I honestly think the Apple hiFi from 2005 sounds better..$99? LOL. They're barely making any money off the HomePod. People don't understand the advanced tech in that device. If you don't like Siri, fine, but the microphones and speakers are unparalleled at the introductory price level.
inkIf I set them as my output, generally I can play one youtube video with no problem.
If I attempt a second, the video will stutter at some point. If I restart, audio will revert to being output to the TV via HDMI, but the volume control will display the HomePods' volume HUD and not affect anything.
The WWE Network app won't even send audio to the HomePods, regardless of them being my 'first try' or not.
Low end response seems more balanced. Before there was more focus on kids and highs. Now it seems like the bass has been brought up to how the AirPod pros sound. Is it possible for you to expand on this thought?
Double tap the top right remote button on Apple TV to invoke the sleep and profile selection. Go down to airplay and you can enable the HomePods to play from this screen no matter what app you are in. Works for Disney plus as well.I think that’s the YouTube app. The app is the only one that doesn’t behave like all other apps as in, you cannot choose an audio source inside the app. It will play through my tv all the time and only by going through a procedure of going out of the app switching input audio sources on the homescreen and going back in will output sound through HomePods inside YouTube. Super annoying and because of it almost feeling pushed to get rid of that ***** app.

I have a HomePod It’s pretty good but nothing special. It sounds fine for what’s basically another bt speaker. But I guarantee that a pair of $300 dollar speakers will crush a pair of HomePods sound wise.$99? LOL. They're barely making any money off the HomePod. People don't understand the advanced tech in that device. If you don't like Siri, fine, but the microphones and speakers are unparalleled at the introductory price level.
Just about to post the same thing...
It's always been able to recognise my voice, never my partner's. Tried lots of different suggested troubleshooting without success, and just resigned to waiting for the next update hoping it would then work.
Sad to report it doesn't... oh, Apple...
Already did with the previous software version, but will do again for this one.
Thank you for reminding me![]()
