Apple today released a new firmware update for the original AirPods Pro, the AirPods 2, the AirPods 3, and the Lightning version of the AirPods Max headphones. The new firmware is version 6F21, up from the prior 6A326 firmware that these devices were previously running.

There is no word on what's included in the firmware, but given that these are all older models, it is likely that the new firmware includes bug fixes and other minor improvements.

Apple doesn't have a way to manually upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air when the AirPods are in a charging case and connected to an iOS device or Mac.

Presuming given age of the hardware, part of this might be for charging guidelines against older batteries. Pure speculation, but that's what I'm assuming this may do.

Wait I’ve got AirPods Pro 2 (lighting case) but im on 7A305, so weird how the latest one is 6Fxxx??

Also I’ve got all my region etc set to the US (im in the UK) and on the 18.1 RC but I still don’t have the hearing aid/hearing test feature 😭

So basically...

YES: 6F21 (from 6A326)
AirPods Max - Lightning
AirPods Pro 1 - Lightning
AirPods 2 - Lightning
AirPods 3 - Lightning

NO:
AirPods Max - USB-C
✗ AirPods Pro 2 - Lightning
✗ AirPods Pro 2 - USB-C
✗ AirPods 1 - Lightning

✗ AirPods 4 - USB-C

EDIT: 2 days later...

YES: 7B19 (from 7A305)
✓ AirPods Pro 2 - Lightning
AirPods Pro 2 - USB-C

Same (not sure why the person you replied to edited their comment though), I'm on 7B13d (APP2-Lightning). From what I can tell MacRumors missed the announcement for that one.
The frequency of updates has been ridiculous, as has the bizarre functionality "improvements". So here I thought I was on 305 but sneakily must have sucked in the update to 7B13d.

Not sure if they missed including APP2, or it is indeed only for older AP and APP1? That would make sense with ours being on 7**** and the new firmware starting with 6*** but who knows nowadays. We'll have to wait until someone with APP2 updates to 6F21, or not.

Well, my Airpods Pro were on 7B13d before I plugged them into the charger, so presumably that update came out before today, and it looks like the last announcement of an APP2 update was 7A302/4 on September 18th, so I have to assume this one we're both on came out sometime between then and yesterday.

So confusing ever since they've been blasted out so often since mid September. We did also have 305 before 7B13d

Pay attention only Airpod pro gen 1 and Airpod max lightning get the update Airpod pro 2 and usb c Airpod MAX do not get them! as they are ahead already.... also Airpod 2-3 get it lightning only...
