This was a very helpful informative graphic that very succinctly spells it all out. well done!

Maybe this one will fix the connectivity issues in a crowd/gym since iOS18...

Wait I thought we were already on the 705s, how exactly does their version number work lol

Oh wait I guess it's not for the Pro 2's I've been having these connectivity issues on

firmware is generally installed over-the-air when the AirPods are in a charging case and connected to an iOS device or Mac.

Any company but Apple posts a software/firmware update with no release notes: Outrage.
Apple does the same: Excitement.

This is appalling for a software company.

Apples website
I've always found this site to be odd, either not updated in a timely fashion or only listing the current version that the new firmware updates.

Take for example the APP2. The latest version is 7B13d, yet the linked site still shows 7A305. I've noticed that this seems to be true for every firmware availability.

7B13d is a beta firmware, which is why you don't see it on that site. There will surely be a public release version next week and that will make it to the release notes page.

Is it? Then this happened to me before also, yet I didn't sign up (never have) to be a tester. How can I check or uncheck if it is activated?

I just saw the firmware update happen kind of right before my eyes, for my Airpods Pro Max (Lightning) headphones.

After reading this article, I kept checking my Max's firmware version, using my Macbook Pro (in System Settings > Bluetooth), to see if the firmware update would eventually be installed some time this morning, and it did, at about 5:50 am Pacific--in the "My Devices" list of the Bluetooth prefpane, my Airpods Max are normally listed at the top, followed by my Airpods Pro 2, but after about an hour of intermittently checking but still seeing my Airpods Max at firmware 6A326, I saw the order of the items in this list change briefly, so that for about a half-second my Airpods Max were listed second, and my Airpods Pro 2 were suddenly listed above them, and then they suddenly reverted to their original order, with my Airpods Max listed at the top. I checked the Max's firmware version, and it's now 6F21. No change to my Airpods Pro 2 firmware though--they're still at 7A305, though a few people without developer accounts, and without installing an iOS 18.1 beta or the release candidate, are seeing their APP2 updated to 7B13d, which is a developer/beta version.

I really really hate the way Apple does firmware updates for AirPods (all flavors) and AirTags. "Hang in there, it will happen" is a rough way for people on MR that want to upgrade as soon as things are released.

So having APP2 with a recent firmware update to 7B13d, it's become obvious that there's betas being pushed out to me. I never signed up for them and it appears, only my AirPods are affected. I looked in Settings for the AP and iP and there's no option to select or deselect. There's a couple other members here who appear to be confused by this also. So it's a niche bug to call AC about or anywhere else I can look?

There was a report that they had "accidentally" pushed a beta firmware to the public release channel. Apparently this, indeed, is the case.

Cannot remember reading about it but this sounds exactly what is actually happening. Cheers for the reply.

So I've just contacted AC. Initially they said they don't provide active support to beta versions, which is all fine and good but doesn't address the issue that it is being pushed onto my AirPods. Apparently the beta 7B13d that appeared after being on 7A305, isn't even the latest beta version.

After some screen sharing, looking in various settings, including privacy, no hint of developer Mode could be found. This was expected from my end. Communication with next tier support also didn't see an immediate solution. They did however say they were aware of the issue.

So all that's left is a suggested Genius appointment to the nearest Apple Store, to inspect the devices by a tech. I'll update further once I've gone there.

Edit: I've just created a sole thread in the AirPod forum for higher visibility and in case of searches for those with this issue currently or in the future.

My little AirPods Pro I got as a gift, I asked for the normal AirPods but as the new Pro 2’s were out the IG Pro’s were discounted, so it was a lovely surprise on Christmas Day, and they e worked fine ever since and are still getting updates, awesome.
I use one at a time when I walk the dog to listen to You Tube videos.

7B19 Firmware has just been unleashed by Apple and it enables the hearing test feature, hearing aid feature, and hearing protection features. This is for the Airpods Pro 2 in conjunction with running iOS 18.1.
Firmware 7B19 unfortunately doesn't fix (at least on my new APP2) the issue I've been seeing shortly after I started using my APP2 about a week ago, which is that none of the Noise Control options work--"Off" lets in more sound than "Transparency", so that "Transparency" actually sounds a little muffled by comparison, and "Noise Cancellation" is about the same as "Transparency"--slightly muffled sound. All these options worked for just a few hours when I first started using my APP2, then they stopped working. I've unpaired and then re-paired them with both my iPhone 15 Pro Max and my M1 Macbook Pro 16 inch, and I've drained their batteries by leaving them out of their case and running until their batteries reached zero charge, and then I recharged them, but this didn't help either.

If Transparency mode doesn't work on a pair of APP2, then I don't think the new Hearing Aid mode will work either, since both rely on the two microphones in each earbud to work.

I only ended up on this forum because I started having problems with mi app1. The battery was draining to completely empty overnight and without using them. I go to work, put the AirPods into my ears and nothing happens, as the battery is completely empty. This has been happening for the last 2 weeks, so I went and checked the version 6f21. This was already the case a few days ago, when I first checked to try to fix the issue (I was trying to get a firmware update , as I thought the 7whatever version was newer then 6f).
does anyone know how I could revert to the previous firmware, or how to stop the batteries from dying without being used?
help would be much appreciated
