....aaaannnnd MR forum goes negative on Apple recycling efforts in....one post. New record?
No, because there is no such thing as a perpetual motion machine. In every system there is loss in one form or another - decay, energy, whatever. You cannot take an iPhone 5 apart, melt it down, and expect to manufacture an iPhone 7 out of it. You might, if you're lucky, get to 80% of the material you need, but you'll always have to introduce some raw material to make up the difference.
It's a noble endeavor, but also quite satisfying when reality smacks SJW'ing up side the head.
If they're really committed to the environment they should go back to upgradeable/user repairable MacBooks instead of trying to force everyone into a 4 year laptop upgrade cycle.
Still on a 2010 MBP 17". It's a shame it can no longer be repaired, but it's one of the few years that was pretty much trouble-free.
Even though it's 7 years old now, it still runs beautifully under Linux and Windows 7/10 -- so it'll have support for years to come.
It's just a shame MacOS runs poorly on it. It's okay for basic things but even YouTube doesn't play properly.
Have you done the SSD swap? It'll make it run so much better. I bought a 2010 15" MBP just a couple of months ago... replaced the failing capacitor on the logic board myself (a well known issue on this one). I even redid the thermal paste on the CPU/GPU. I bought it off an auction site that described the default specs but when it showed up it turns out it was a CTO model with the upgraded screen
Turns out I'm not a power user I guess, I just browse the web, create an occasional slideshow/photobook/youtube clip... and that's about it. You don't need the latest and greatest to do that.

I wonder how people have MacBooks or iMacs or iPhones or iPads or iPods that they use for years and years.Idea. Have Apple spend a little more on building quailty products that last longer than 12-16 months without starting to decompose or hey, i dont know, a serviceable battery or even leave things like the headphone jack there so third party manufacturers don't build things like mics and light measuring add ons that are useless for the next model iphone because there is no jack to plug them into. Apple creates more obsolescene and trash for the future for its benefit, they are not green. They are greedy. They dont care about the younger generation, elderly or the handicapped, they just havent fully exploited them as a revenue stream to the maximum yet. They have to find new ways to dupe sections of the population that arent familiar with their business practices or their long long history of choosing shoddy internals to keep costs down and profits high, all while charging a premium price tag. The emperor has no clothes. Its 2017. Free the OS so I dont have disk drives full of data that can be utilized on hardware which can be upgraded or repaired. Im locked in this ecosystem with no hope of parole.
So basically, anyone who disagrees with you is just a bad person in general, eh? Where are you from, Europe? Your belief system sure is.These are great. Love Apple's commitment to the environment and privacy.
Surely the people complaining about it are ironically the same who say environmental efforts should be left to the private sector. Time to just come out and say you don't give a **** about anyone but yourselves. Your kids? Yeah they can just **** right off, amiright?

Fun animation. Sort of reminds me of some older Google animations. I'm wondering how they can get 100% in their goal. Unless we all recycle all our electronics as part of a national cultural approach to getting new tech. But it'll be interesting how close they get to this goal.
No, but the aversion towards alternative ways of thinking is. Nobody thinks that we shouldn't take care of the planet; that argument is an often repeated fallacy. Some believe we should adapt and change modern society in the pursuit of a greener planet, even to the detriment of the economy, while others believe we should believe we should work within what society can handle. There are pros and cons to both ways of thinking, without a doubt. The belief that we should take care of our home planet is not unique to Europe.
The horror of a company recycling! And doing better than the company has ever been doing before. The horror!I cant believe its happening! It was such a great company just a few years ago, when Steve was still around. But now? It's bull****! This whole Tim Cook? ITS A JOKE! THIS GUY NEEDS TO BE FIRED STRAIGHT AWAY!
