I would have to say that FaceTime's video and audio quality are unmatched by any service that I've tried so far (and there aren't many I haven't), but I do wish it was more universal.

microsoft, samsung, nokia, etc. these guys are always attacking apple in their ads, apple should have fought back, why forgive them, apple should have showed them who's the boss.

apple, fight back!

And if was 80% men, you'd be saying it's sexist because Apple thinks that only men use their devices. Do you really want Apple counting the number of males, females, young people, old people, Blacks, Whites, Asians, etc., in their ads so that every group is represented exactly equally?

Also, what ads don't use attractive people? Almost all do, especially if they're appealing to a young audience.

"Sex-sells" is not necessarily sexist. It's sexist when it stereotypes people into predefined roles.

And with Verizon you can't be on the phone and do something else (like use the browser) at the same time. So it evens out. Why don't you just upgrade, especially if you have an unlimited data plan. You're not going to be able to maintain that if you switch carriers because the carriers will grandfather you if you're already with them, but not if you're switching or a new customer.

I dunno.. Using the female gender like that to sell products seems sexist to me. Sorry. Maybe if they used some more "less-conventional beauty" women who weren't all acting "cute" 100% of the time (I mean, smiling constantly, being the "victim" of a shoddy boyfriend, c'mon), then I'd side with you and wouldn't call it sexist.

It's funny that in the iOS7 intro video all of this is accomplished, a somewhat good balance between men and women, women being serious, etc. But not in the ads, of course.

They don't have to. That's what makes them different than the rest.

I wish AT&T would let me FaceTime...

I've had an unlimited plan for many years and AT&T still won't allow me to FT over cellular.

How many emotional ads do they really have to make to exploit people?
are they selling hardware technology or what?
This sucks. and worse than Samsung's shot taking ads at apple.

I really like FaceTime, it just works and is simple.

One feature I would love to see added though and that's the option to leave a video message as you can with Skype...that would finish it off.

that's what i love about apple, the iphone 5s is just around the corner and they're still busy promoting the iphone 5, apple never forgets their products.
great ad, waiting to catch this on my TV

And let's not forget that the iPhone was the very first phone to offer native videochats, so Apple gets the credit for kickstarting the whole mobile videochat revolution with FaceTime. I don't even know if any phones had a front facing camera before Apple.

Are you serious? In the UK Apple were practically the last to the party. All the other players in 3G had video call ability. In fact, video chat was so synonymous with 3G that when Apple brought out the iPhone 3G, everyone wondered where the front-facing camera was.

Just an absolutely beautiful commercial. Among Apple's best. Love how it creates emotions we can all relate to without being contrived.

Connect with FaceTime

I really like the ad, not only because it is well made but because it is so true with me. My son connects to the grandparents using FaceTime every now and then when they couldn't meet up in person. Just like the ad shows, he even kisses grandpa and grandma on the iPhone's screen! And that is priceless.

How is this exploiting people? In fact, it's the opposite. It shows how the iPhone can assist people in doing things that actually matter and are important.. I.e. connecting with family and friends when not physically possible.

This would've been an amazing ad... three years ago.

C'mon apple, show us some new features.

C'mon. The new features are in iOS 7.

Coming soon to an Apple Store near you.

Apple is fighting back!

Apple is simply not naming its competition. Why given them free advertisement?

The current target is Skype and other video conferencing apps.

I actually rarely make video calls, but if I do I use FaceTime if possible. Skype works really shi**y for me most of the time.
Don't know why.
The big problem with FaceTime of course is it's Apple only. It would be more useful if it was available for other platforms as well.

In many ways Apples success is more a result of great marketing than the product itself. I am always amazed at how many people think everything Apple does is perfect and indispensable. They speak as though other companies don't exist.

FaceTime is going to be a great new feature when it's launched (what's that? It's two years old and they're heralding it as new?) Oh. Right.
Well. Now.
In that case er.. yeah. Thats it. It clearly shows Apple's tardiness and laziness regarding their innovative design ideas is now a thing of the past.
Present.
And Future.

Oh no. Can I write this again?

("Sorry mate, the competition won't wait"-MacRumors Ed)

Face time is kind of superfluous when you could just use skype.

Skype is garbage. It stutters all the time, nowhere near a smoother experience like FaceTime. To its credit, Skype works with non-iOS devices. But that's the only good reason to use it over FT.

Your reading comprehension is like at 3rd grade. At best.

The Apple commercial never implied that FaceTime is new. Only that it's (now) the most-often used video-conferencing format among all smartphones. Which is an impressive statistic, considering that Apple has tons of rival (smartphone) brands that it has to compete with.

Skype is pretty quirky with ultra-high latency/dropped connections I find, but I haven't had a chance to really use FaceTime extensively. Video only is a huge (and soon to be moot?) negative, but the cross platform nature (and install base) is more than 'a good reason' to use Skype, it's utterly crucial...

Nice commercial, i need to be able to talk to multiple people at a time, like 3-4 Conference FaceTime.
