Apple today released new firmware for the AirPods Max 2. The firmware is version 8E258, up from the prior 8E251 firmware that was released just ahead of when the AirPods Max 2 launched.

It's not clear what's included in the firmware update, but Apple provides limited details in its AirPods firmware support document. Most updates focus on bug fixes and improvements.

The AirPods Max 2 have an H2 chip, an upgrade over the H1. The H2 brings several new features like Live Translation, Adaptive Audio, Loud Sound Reduction, Voice Isolation, and more.

To get the new firmware, make sure your AirPods are in range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and are connected via Bluetooth. From there, connect the Apple device to Wi-Fi, then connect the AirPods Max to power with a USB-C cable. Keep the AirPods Max in Bluetooth range of the Apple device, and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.

From there, reconnect the AirPods to the Apple device, and check the firmware version to see if it's updated. Apple says if the firmware doesn't install, to restart the AirPods Max and try again.

Oh thank glob they needed it, I've been having some auto-syncing issues with my Macs occasionally and have been having to do the force reset button combo on them to get them to connect again!

Mine updated pretty quickly. I have a flight this weekend so looking forward to see if it helps. I also needed to reboot them a few times when they got out of sync on my last flight.

I hope this fixes the audible sound the AirPods Max produce when entering tunnels within a train. Isn't present on APM v1.

Can’t seem to get it to update wish they’d add a check and force update. I just reset them we’ll see if this forces the update.
Same. Even attached to phone by usb c cable. No change.

All day plugged in. In case then out of case. No update still.

Apple should disclose what is changing with an update however small it may be. Have to simply assume that it might be only a bug fixing update.

Hi, that's what I did. Connected in Bluetooth to my iPhone listened to a song for 2 minutes then connected without putting them in the case to the charger with the iPhone nearby. Time 20 minutes they connected...
Another way to connect them without a case to the Mac and wait...
Andrea.

Well over an hour plugged in. In case. On home WiFi. All Apple devices near it. No update.
I really can't understand stressing out or getting frustrated about AirPods firmware. They're the only semi-magical Apple device left in the ecosystem that just works, and you destroy that illusion when you start trying to worry about fetching software for it on your own time schedule.

Just let it update when it updates. Go be free.
