Just checked my AirPods Max 2. They're on 8E258. And I did nothing. This update happened during regular use without my noticing anything.

No connecting to Wi-Fi.
No waiting half an hour.

I probably should learn patience but like you all I like to update my firmware and software as soon as I know there’s an update. So rather than wait for the firmware to update on its own, I force it. This time I connected my AirPods via Bluetooth to one of my devices, in this case my MacBook Pro. I left the AirPods out of the case and plugged in to a USB-C wall charger, not the MacBook, but within range of the MacBook. I went to bed and by morning the update had taken.

Had to restart mine to get them to update after leaving them near the phone and on the charger all night with no update. Once I restarted them it completed while I ate breakfast.

I really can't understand stressing out or getting frustrated about AirPods firmware. They're the only semi-magical Apple device left in the ecosystem that just works, and you destroy that illusion when you start trying to worry about fetching software for it on your own time schedule.

Just let it update when it updates. Go be free.
Exactly, as I posted elsewhere, I didn't do a thing and mine updated. I never even went on Wi-Fi. Everything happened via cellular.

If everything is working 100% perfectly I generally agree, but myself and probably some others here are hoping firmware fixes some of the issues we're experiencing thus there's a little bit of urgency to get the newest updates.

I haven't had any random disconnects this morning so far so we'll see.
