Apple today released new firmware for the AirPods Pro 3. The firmware has a version number of 8B40, up from 8B39.

There is no word on what's included in the new firmware, but Apple has a support document with limited notes. Most updates are limited to bug fixes and performance improvements.

To get the updated firmware, make sure your AirPods Pro are in range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and are connected via Bluetooth.

From there, connect your Apple device to Wi-Fi, put your AirPods in the Charging Case, and connect the Charging Case to power. Keep the case closed and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware update to install. After that, check the version number and repeat the process if the update hasn't been installed.

What’s Version vs Case Version? My version is now the latest but Case Version is the previous.
UPDATE: Case Version now is on the latest too.

I really hope this has a fix for me putting my AirPods in my ears and they’ll play music, but won’t say they are in my ears and I can’t push the buttons. My phone says they are charging and in the case

Might be a stupid question, but since the AirPods don't integrate fully with better older iOS versions, will these update even if I'm not on iOS 26?

I’ve started having issues with mine connecting and disconnecting in a loop. Forgetting + resetting helps for a short moment and then it starts again. Then after charging the case etc for some time it will work fine. This has now happened twice in 2 weeks.

I’ve been busy lately but if it happens again I will take them to the Apple Store.

maybe they no longer make a high pitch whine if I hold them in my hands.

lol who am I kidding the updates probably don't do anything at all

To those with APP3's that have problems-
Did those problems roll in after some use or did you notice issues straight away?

I've had some connection issues intermittently recently taking them out of the case and putting them in my ears. They just don't connect unless I re-put them in the case and try again.

I have been feeling the battery lasting quite less these days. Surely unrelated but I could have 5 hours zoom call (using the Mac mic as input) and now it starts beeping the battery low sound before the 5 hour mark.

Haha, I just bought a new set of the Pro 3 after my Pro 2 left pod stopped charging. The new case feels cheap.
It does feel cheap. For me I think it’s the weight. The case feels less substantial. Bigger than APP2, but with a smaller battery.
