It's not true. Taking potshots at Apple is easy and something all of us tend to do on occasion. I believe with respect to this it is unwarranted.

Also, Vision Pro is a development product. Apple never expected to sell too many of them at this stage of development and I doubt they expected their average customer would even entertain a purchase at these levels of cost and evolution. I really think people ought to relax. Vision Pro is a multi-year project until it is even close to being a consumer product. I have not seen anything that leads me to believe they are "trying to cajole people into spending several grand." Beyond the debut on their slick video, they haven't done a thing to push them on people and they have fully admitted by their actions and developer outreach that they aren't ready and if you are an early adopter go ahead and take a chance.

I am not buying them in foreseeable future, but I am excited to see what they become and if the can deliver on their potential I will.

Don't forget it was a couple of years until the watch took off. It will be at least that long. Patience is a virtue that seems to be correlated with age.
The Apple Watch demonstrated its purpose when it was announced. Actually, several functions from taking calls and managing notifications handsfree to tracking fitness. I bought one a couple months after it came out, and still have one today.

There’s no such value in a Vision Pro. There’s nothing valuable it can do that other existing products on the market today can’t do. It’s a solution in search of a problem.

Yeah - why just with the Vision Pro?

Introducing Lossless Audio with Apple Vision Pro

AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging Case (USB‑C) will enable Lossless Audio with ultra-low latency to deliver the perfect true wireless solution with Apple Vision Pro.2 The H2 chip in the latest AirPods Pro and Apple Vision Pro, combined with a groundbreaking wireless audio protocol, unlocks powerful 20-bit, 48 kHz Lossless Audio with a massive reduction in audio latency.
When Apple Vision Pro is available early next year in the U.S., customers will be able to enjoy the most advanced wireless audio experience in the industry with the new AirPods Pro for exceptional entertainment, gaming, FaceTime calls, and so much more
That is really insane. I have questions! Does this only work with a second H2-Chip? What about the normal Bluetooth connection with an iPhone? 🥹

Wow. That's big. Wonder why only with Vision Pro. Seems like that's something they should be able to support with at least the iPhone 15 Pro models, too.
Presumably because of the distance between the AirPods and the Vision Pro generally being relatively short (both being on your head) and consistent enough to predict signal strength and latency v. much more variables in the connection between your iPhone and AirPods.

Some of it could also be due to the Vision Pro also having a H2 chip.

More curious however is the implication that it would only work if you have a USC-C AirPods Pro case.

Can't seem to find my case firmware version for my AirPods 2, just shows version 6A300. Is the case firmwares only for pro models?

6A300 for non-2nd gen Pro and 6A301 for the 2nd APPs as per the article:

Apple today introduced a new firmware update for the AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max. The new firmware is 6A301 for the AirPods Pro 2 and 6A300 for the first-generation AirPods Pro, the standard AirPods, and the AirPods Max.

Yeah let‘s see if the Lightning-version of the APP2 can do the same. Maybe it’s misleading. 😌

I've never had it update this fast--always more witchcraft involved to get an update. Not this time--opened the case and put them in and *boom* updated was there.

My AirPods 2 updated rather quickly, nice!
Mine did as well on the latest iOS 17 developer beta they released today. The first thing I did when I got home from work was install it then I connected my Air Pods Pro 2 to the charger and opened it near my iPhone to connect my iPhone to them. I let them charge for a bit and when I checked back later and opened the case back up to take them out the new wizard displayed offering to enable all of the new features. I’ll need to do the same with my OG AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

I’ve got an older pair of AirPods 2 my wife uses with her iPhone 13. Are there new firmware for those as well? I’m guessing not since the AirPods 3 are the latest and greatest of the standard AirPods but they could’ve left the OG AirPods Pro out of getting any new features and they didn’t so that was nice.

I think you’re right. On the page, it says “The H2 chip in the latest AirPods Pro and Apple Vision Pro, combined with a groundbreaking wireless audio protocol” which makes me think it’s both ends having the H2 PLUS a new wireless audio protocol which we don’t know if it will eventually come to other devices or not.

Just opened the APP2 case, look up the version in the iPhone Settings and it was already updated somehow:
Version 6A301
Case 54.26.2

Guess the next step is to eventually upgrade to iOS 17 when it's released, currently 16.2.

Version 6A300/6A301 release notes

"When used with iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, AirPods firmware update 6A300/6A301 takes the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) experience to the next level with Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and Personalized Volume.
This update also adds convenience and control on calls with press to mute and unmute for AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generation), and AirPods Max, as well as significant improvements to the Automatic Switching experience for all available AirPods across Apple devices with the latest software updates."

It wouldnt be the first, second or third time. Multiple times with the iPhone, Watch and Airpods Max. Search the website.
Why don’t you help me by giving me some specific examples that aren’t based on speculation or someone's own theory that becomes an article topic or forum discussion topic. i want to understand the theory that the examples you mention, which I hope you will cite for me, are intentional and part of an Apple strategy to force upgrades.

I put my AirPod Pro 2 on my charger all night and I still have 6A299b, so no 6A301.

Yet I have the new noice controls, like Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and Personalized Volume, which I have used during the last week. And let me tell you, I really hate Conversation Awareness, so I disabled it. So I don’t know what 6A301 would mean to me.
