Apple today released a new firmware update designed for the AirTag item trackers. The firmware features a build number of 2A61, up from the 2A36 firmware that came out last December.

It has been nearly a year since Apple updated the firmware on the AirTags, and there is no word yet on what might be included in the update.

Today's firmware release will be rolling out on a staggered basis. One percent of users will get the update today, and then it will expand to 10 percent of users on November 7. On November 14, an additional 25 percent of users will see the update, and then it will be available to all on November 28.

It is not possible to force an AirTag update, as it's something that's done over-the-air through a connected iPhone. To make sure the update happens, you can put your AirTag in range of your ‌iPhone‌, but you have to wait for the firmware to roll out to your device. You can check your current AirTag firmware version through the Find My app, with instructions available in our how to.

The one tag I have shows firmware 2.0.36. According to the article published last year this is the firmware that is shown in the FindMy app. Absolutely no clue when it got installed.
All 7 of mine show this firmware but I got a 4 pack end of September and 3 more during October. Love these little things!

Ok, I've put my AirTags close to the phone, and lets see when IT HAPPENS 🥳

Hopefully the thieves that steal things will read this and update, since Apple has given them the ability to disable them from being found.

I think the AirTag is an undervalued and appreciated device.. have one in my bag and it's a huge piece of mind. Especially cool when it warns me if I intentionally (or if I ever unintentionally) leave it behind.

Way better than my old Tile.

You're doomed! 7 AirTags to be updated to the latest firmware only increases the chances of ANC reduction in your AirPods Pro -- for sure.
I would not be surprised if The firmware maybe now let the airtags function as a repeater to find nearby Airpods from users who deliberately remove their iPhone from the Airpods proximity thus preventing Apple to reduce ANC to forcing them to upgrade. The more airtags users have the easier for Apple to downgrade hardware close in proximity.

All three of mine say the same 2.0.36... is that the same as 2A36?

Since I upgraded to the mess otherwise known as iOS17, I keep getting reminded when I leave something at home - even if I “excluded” my home from the warning….. iOS just removes the exclusion after a day or so….

I also got reminded that I’d left my bike behind - even though I’d switched this reminder off. What do they think I’d do with my bike - take it into the shop??

That’s an iOS issue, not an AirTag issue per se.
