Apple appears to have released updated firmware for the MagSafe Battery Pack that is compatible with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models that support MagSafe accessories.

The updated firmware should be going out over the air starting today, and MagSafe Battery Pack owners should see a 2.7.b.0 version number in the Settings app after the firmware is installed.

Firmware updates are done quietly over the air and Apple does not provide release notes, so we do not know what features or bug fixes might be included in the software. There is no clear method for updating the firmware of the MagSafe Battery Pack firmware, but it should be connected to an iPhone for the update to initiate.

Apple last updated the MagSafe Battery Pack firmware in December, and the prior firmware is 2.5.b.0.

Ooh, hopefully this’ll fix the issue I’ve had where it says it’s empty (and refuses to charge my phone) until I plug it in and it realises it’s actually full.

FYI, the competing $43 Anker 521 Magnetic Battery rocks, and they make one with a standing case too for $70 called the Anker 622 Magnetic Battery (MagGo).

Just don't be fooled by the MagSafe-looking Qi charger on the Anker PowerCore III 10K Wireless Portable Charger. Your iPhone will not stick to it, and it's even hard to get the Qi to work even when it isn't.

My MagSafe Battery Pack didn’t receive the firmware updates released in December 2021 and is still running its original firmware version 2.0.2c.0! I connected it to my iPhone 13 Pro Max when the December update was released and even after hours with it connected to my iPhone (using a charger to stop it’s battery draining the December firmware update never happened). I’ve had the battery pack on my phone for over an hour now and the firmware still hasn’t changed from 2.0.2c.0. If I’d thought I might still be running the original firmware after 2 updates being released I’d not have spent such a ridiculous amount of money!

Next to the polishing cloth, the MagSafe battery may be the most useless item in Apple’s inventory?‍♂️?
With the problems I’m having updating from the original firmware version 2.0.2c.0 to either of the updates that have now been released I’m beginning to think like that myself! ???

Too bad it doesn't update the cheap plastic design
Fortunately you don’t work for Apple, for obvious reasons you don’t understand manufacturing.

Your comment doesn’t take into account other materials would only add to the weight and cost. The current application of plastic Apple is using, is perfectly suitable for this product.
