I'm close to the the age of the grandmother in this add and I have no problem using Apple products.

What? You aren't a drooling doddering fool? lol. The kids on this board crack me up sometimes. I think they should require us to provide our ages on the left so we have a better idea who we are dealing with. Maybe I wouldn't bother arguing with people's logic if I knew they were too young to know any better.

----------

The problem with the Ad is, it's totally unrealistic of the real world.
Like many of Apple's (people using our devices) adverts, they are not realistic of real world scenarios.

As has been said before, the old lady would most probable never even think of touching that new fangled gizmo sitting on the table.
It and most of Apple's Adverts are very rose tinted, but utterly unrealistic

Yeah, no other commercials show an unrealistic, idealized view of the world at all :roll eyes:

I think you need to be around more older people to appreciate what they CAN do and not what you THINK they can't do.

The song is way older than Ella most known versions, it is from 1937 and a standard that's been sung and recorded hundreds of times. Her best known versions are from the songbooks in the late 1950s.

I don't really like Ella's voice and the very traditional arrangements she's often known from 1956 on, for me there are 10 better versions in existence at least. The Early Ella sounded much different, warmer and more raw, but still she's not the epitome of what I seek in a singer.

There are some Ella output I do like. Her Louis Armstrong collaborations are great, as well as when she sings with small ensemble with no string (like with Dizzy Gillepsie on "Oh Lady Be Good").

For "Love is Here to Stay" for example, Blossom Dearie and many live Sarah Vaughan versions are much much better in my book. Not as technical and warmer.

Agreed but my point still stands... You and I can duet volare and pawn it as our own to some forced tear jerker message and it's bubkis.

Disagree on Ella's voice as she's one of the greatest in my book but do concur with your sentiments on duets with Louis. They are amazing together.

I cringe when i read some of the things on this site. There is way too much insect dna floating around in the thought processes of a lot of these commenters.

Lol, don't you know? Everyone's the same age on the Internet.

Take a closer look, there are more of us there than you think. You are blinded by your prejudices.

I've looked plenty of times, there aren't many of you. Clearly, you don't know what prejudice means, since what I'm describing is actually called an observation. Next time you're in there, use one of the macbooks to look up the two words. If anyone is prejudice between the two of us it's you... You seem to think you know what I'm thinking. Pot Kettle Black mean anything to you?

Observations are tainted by prejudice. It is virtually impossible for people to make observations that are not reflecting their prejudices.

I think this will be a little obscure for anyone who has yet to own a Mac, iPad or iPhone to understand. Apple devices seem to allow a little more creatively, and don't tend to 'get in the way' of the process.

What I'm trying to say is, I 'get' this advert. Apple devices inspire and encourage creativity.

I always tell people that it's intangible, but Macs "make" you want to be more creative. I don't know why, but everyone I know agrees with me.

As I said in my edit, there is prejudice here. Look in the mirror for an example. ;)

I am aware of the effects my prejudices have on my observations. You, on the other hand, deny your prejudices so you are totally unaware of the effect they have on your observations.

So true. When I'm in an Apple store I see people of ALL ages. Of course, I can only speak to the Apple store in the Mall of America, not every single store in the world like 2IS has apparently been in to draw his omniscient conclusions. Wish I thought so much of myself to claim to know what is going on with everyone everywhere all the time.

Since anecdotal evidence is not data, baring rigorous statistical analysis, that Apple may, or may not have, none of our personal observations are proof of anything. Some people have a hard time accepting that basic truth.

Ella was great but it doesn't negate the fact that having her version in the ad would totally obliterate the storyline. Did you even watch the ad and identify what the story is? You remind me of the people who would comment on that homemade video of the guy alone in the Vegas airport lip-syncing "All by Myself" by Celine Dion and say he should have used the Eric Carmen version. They were totally clueless that that would have absolutely ruined the comedy of the video. It amazes me how some people have NO sense of drama or comedy and how it is created.

Is that a fancy way of saying "Opinions are like **********. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks"?

Can't argue with that observation.

"basic truth" and what is that? I suggest you re-read what I said. I said

"Yep, because that's what I see every time I walk into an Apple Store... It's just packed with senior citizens."

It was sarcastic, and the only logical conclusions you should draw from it is that they aren't packed with senior citizens. That does not equate to there not being any at all in there. You claim to recognize your prejudice, but you clearly do not. You saw a post you didn't like, and drew your own conclusions based on information in your own mind.

You are the poster child for prejudice.

You are so easy, you almost take the fun out of it.

If you go to the Apple website, it's on the home page and superimposed on a screenshot it says:

From one gift come many.
This holiday season, give the gifts of creativity, music, art, thoughtfulness, and generosity. A gift from Apple has the power to inspire in countless ways.

There. That's what the ad means to say.

The first thought that came to my mind is, this girl is lucky to not having purchased a 2011 Macbook Pro, she could not have done any of that. And she would have to spend all her remaining savings to purchase another computer.

I own two 2011 MBPs. Pray tell what's wrong with them?

I'm assuming he's referring to some of the continuity features that have been left out.

Maybe the display issues some of them are having. I checked his other posts and he's been railing about having problems. Fortunately, I haven't.

Unlike all the photographs on your phone. The songs on your iPod and the "memories" on your ipad-all of the contents will have been zapped and lost years later. When you upgraded to the iPad 52. And unlike hard copies of media ... . Virtual memories aren't forever. Like. Vinyl. Photographs (real ones). And paper.

If you're not used to those days. It will mean nothing.

Enjoy the faux sentimentality.

Enjoy New Apple.

And you do ... Clearly.

Thanks!

Hey, I hear they're having a sale on souls at Walmart--you might want to pick one up.

Hate to break it to you, but vinyl and paper aren't forever either. Depends on how you take care of them. Kind of like data, huh?

Yes I even watched the add and we're speaking different languages here.
