Yes, it was. Here is a picture of it in the beta 1.

Dumb question: where is that setting page?

For people that grew up on CDs and real stereos in their home the old Homepod can compare to a Booom Box from the 80s. These new ones sound like a cheap $20 speaker underwater and maybe compare to a pair of crapy pc speakers.
This has to be one of the most pretentious things I've ever read...

Whose expecting audiophile quality from a 3" speaker?? It's one speaker.. not a surround sound setup. Also, this is just a ridiculous comparison all around. You must have some golden ears.

Open the home app. Open the homepod tab. Scroll down until see the "account"/primary user" setting . Click on it. Now you should see lossless audio.

At least I THINK, this is the correct route (i dont personally use any beta software). 😅

Really? I was considering buying a pair of HomePod Mini's for my office. Are they really not good?
They are great. I still prefer the originals, but the minis are great also. Sound way better than Amazon and google equivalents. they also can be set as default audio on appleTV, play lossless and Atmos.

Nope, not there for me.

Apple today released a new version of the HomePod 15 beta software that's designed to go along with the iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, and macOS Monterey betas.

HomePod-Happy-Fix-Feature.jpg

The new software comes as multiple HomePod owners running the original HomePod 15 beta have complained of sudden failures and heat issues that have rendered their HomePods non-functional.

HomePod beta software is distributed on an invite-only basis to select users, so there is no update that can be downloaded by developers or the general public.

There are ways to get the HomePod software if you're not a part of Apple's testing group, but because it's designed for a small number of users on an invite-only basis, we do not recommend using any alternate method to obtain the update.

It is beta software and can be unreliable, as the multiple reports of hardware failures demonstrate. These issues have also affected those with the 14.6 release software, but there does not appear to be a new public version of the HomePod software at this time.

The release notes for the HomePod 15 update do not offer any information and do not indicate whether the failure issue has been addressed.

This is a test to see who really has 'rare-earth' or other heavy metal orbs between the thighs....can't wait to read the 'user' (pun intended) comments!😀 Also like the 'smiley face' on the Pod! 'Warning Will Robinson....Warning!'

too late, I already learned a hard lesson I lost one of my OG HomePods, not installing a beta ever again :/

does anyone know if there is any way to fix the flashing volume lights problem? I have no warranty and Apple doesn't offer support for HomePods in my country.
Hmmmm...this one appears to have passed the first test!

For those using beta software on a HomePod, turn off auto update, disconnect from Apple TV, unpair stereo pairing, update each separately and check for any unusual activity such as the top getting hot.
Unless in the middle of an update, if the top is getting hot keep the HomePod unplugged.
Aren't you missing a step? 'Call local Shaman ........first' .

Apparently we get Lossless audio (but not spatial) in this beta, too.
Careful...you may, as others have, get the 'new' Lossless....no sound at all!

They're not even in the same league IMO. Even stereo minis vs a single OG can't compete. Of course an OG still costs more than a two minis but there's a large gap in the HomePod line right now.

It feels like theirs a deaf person leading their HomePod division right now. (no offense to deaf people)

Only method is to send it in to Apple and they will reinstall OS! I had one and that is all that they said they could do for the price of a new one when they were available at the time. Didn't pay them to fix it became a paper weight unfortunately.

Any more clarity on this? Was the problem also part of 14.6? We still have our HomePods unplugged but want them back.
I'm also in the same boat, and I unplugged both of my 14.6 Homepods just to be sure they don't turn into expensive paper weights. Am I safe using my stereo homepods that are on 14.6, or should I wait until a fix or 15 comes out?

Exactly. The home speaker market is a mess for people who want decent quality.

I'm also in this boat with you, though I only unplugged my HomePod that isn't under warranty anymore. Waiting for a new version that clearly states that the issue has been solved to plug it back in

I'm an Apple-phile. I generally like their products. But this whole Music-HomePod-Lossless/Atmos thing feels like:

“Great news - we're releasing Atmos/Lossless upgrades. It will take six months to a year to roll them out and they can and sometimes do brick your HomePods that we discontinued and have no comparable replacement for even if they were still under warranty.”

Not their finest moment.
