If you like hearing horrible sound....they are great.

For people that grew up on CDs and real stereos in their home the old Homepod can compare to a Booom Box from the 80s. These new ones sound like a cheap $20 speaker underwater and maybe compare to a pair of crapy pc speakers.
100% agreed. Mini is trash

One of my HomePods' screens is warm to the touch. The other is hot. Not scalding, not afraid it's going to melt, but still.

My HomePods Mini still aren't working. I'm in the middle of attempting a reset and setting them back up, but I think my iOS 15 B2 dumpster fire is interfering.

Yeah....they get warm before they get hot and proceed to scalding to be followed by melt. Then.......

That was only present in beta 1, removed in beta 2 and still not there in beta 3.

Oh!. I see. Thank you.

But then why this article still exists?. Has every tech media portal copied 9 to 5 mac without bothering to fact check?

"Shame, eternal shame. Nothing but shame"...

Absolute rubbish. Of course it’s not going to compare to Dedicated Speakers and a dedicated Amp… but that’s a massive disservice - Experts say otherwise.

I’ve been listening to music since the 70s and I like the way the HomePods output audio. If I want true volume I can fire up my Peavey Dark Matter 112s.

I have a stereo pair of HomePods in the living room and a HomePod Mini in each room of the house. The minis serve the purpose of getting the audio into every room when we're cleaning or otherwise moving around the house.

They're good enough for me. I'd only need something "more" if I was implementing an outdoor sound system. Partly because they'd need to be weatherproof and partly because they'd need to be a bit more powerful to cover a backyard.

What about people who had to pay out of warranty for another one because of it?
Apple replaced my out-of-warranty OG HomePod at no cost after 15.0 betta fried my logic board. If their software bricks your device, they have fiduciary duties to replace them in or out-of-warranty, if you were invited to AppleSeed, thank you.

My HomePod appears to have bricked with flashing volume lights about 2 months or so ago. It was on 14.5. I was using as a stereo pair hooked up to my apple tv 4k. I called apple support and they basically said I was out of luck. They said I could return it and they would fix out of warranty for $330. Thats more than a new one if you can find one. I was very aggravated to say the least. I had it for only about 2 years. I just gave more feedback to apple but to I doubt I will hear anything. Any suggestions?

Apple replaced my out-of-warranty OG HomePod, from initial release, just this past Tuesday. You have to ask for a Senior advisor and make it clear that their software bricked your device. That warrants an out-of-warranty replacement and it is their fiduciary duty to do so. Alternatively, the Senior Advisor that processed my return advised that if you take it into an Apple Store they can potentially for as upgrade to get it working and if they can not, they will replace it, because a software bricking is their corporate responsibility.
