Apple Releases New HomePod 16 Software

I really hesitate to post about the new 16.0 on my OG HomePod because the last time I posted that a software update fixed my longrunning problems they started up again in a few days. So, with fingers crossed, I'll simply report that after a few days the persistent dropping of one speaker or the other in my OG -- a literally daily problem -- seems to have stopped. (Well, there was one time, but just one...) Anyway, I'm hoping that my HomePods are somewhat usable again.

I have four HomePods and they are ridiculously useless. So much of my iTunes music ( which I have purchased!) they can’t play. I, also, unfortunately have two apple ids each with a lot of media I have purchased over the years. Both music and movies. Hence I have no interest in subscribing to Apple Music. So, anyway, I am forced to use family sharing to access music in the other account. But the HomePods, full stop, ignore family sharing. I have tried everything. Am well aware of ALL the potential reasons why. Wifi bands etc. I have contacted Apple Support a number of times and they could not help. Last time the guy promised he was going to work it out and get back to me. Never heard from him again. After that every message I sent to Apple in that case was consequently ignored. Just shocking. And let’s not forget that the HomePods can only play some of the music I have purchased in my primary Apple ID. So this is more than a family sharing problem. I have about 500 albums I have purchased from Apple over the years on one Apple ID. On the other I have about 1500 albums! So that’s a LOT of music I have purchased over the last 10 years or so. And I can only access a small percentage of that music on my HomePods. It’s criminal. Am I pissed off. Yes!!! The new release makes no difference. I have seen a LOT of people complaining about this but the idiots at Apple don’t give a toss. I’m a very experienced software developer and so have a deep appreciation of what it takes to write software such as iTunes. I have no respect for them - they are useless. I reckon they put limited resource on it and only attend to the occasional issue.

The effort Apple has put into the software for HomePods and Apple Music is so embarrassingly pathetic.

I updated today, I tried to play music with the command "Hey Siri play my music" and it replied "I don't know who you are, what is your name?", and when I answered with my name it replied "I can't open photos from here " and many others commands do not respond more than "I do not know who you are" someone knows how I can fix it? xC

Siri is like that sometimes. My mother asked her to raise the volume on the HomePod mini connected to the AppleTV recently and she told her "Use the remote"

My experience so far with v16 on homepod minis

When listening to apple music:
I used to be able to say "hey siri dislike this" and she would say "ok got it", or the long winded "ok I'll remember that you don't like this song" then skip to the next. Now she responds with "who would you like to call" or "there is nobody calling right now, or "you have no new messages", no matter how clearly you speak. How can you possibly misinterpret that as I'd like to call someone or anything at all related to phone calls or messages? I used to get the same responses when just "hey siri skip" and she would skip to the next song. That one for whatever reason resolved itself.

When you ask a simple question that only requires a simple answer, now more often the response is "i found some web results, I can show them if you ask again from your ipnone" She used to say something like "would you like me to send them to your iphone". This is way beyond idiotic, why would I need to ask again from my iphone?

I have a few simple automations like turn on this light at dusk and off at dawn that just stopped working. I had to deleted all of them and re-create to get them working again.
