The slate app is not beneficial! The point of a slate in a motion picture is the correctly sync the sound and motion. Without a moving piece to snap and make a sound, its pointless. Cool concept though

That was my exact reaction as well. Being in the film business myself, I highly doubt you'll ever see an iPad with that app replace the current system.

Most people think it has something to do with the camera, not the case at all...its all about the snap for audio syncing.

Good call my friend.

maybe this "iconic" ad is leading to something different. As if Apple is trying to say.. "iPad turned out to be a huge success, and is an iconic product." like a thank you & farewell to this iPad, that can do many things. And then Hello! to the new iPad (2nd generation)

Let me guess. You're a film student.

Wow, another who doesn't know what they're talking about. The Movie Slate app syncs the time code you see displayed with a LTC Timecode generator which in turn is synced with the audio recorder and the camera. The clap sound is practically pointless at this point and is really just meant as a back up in case the timecode isn't synced properly or you're using a camera with no timecode-in capabilities such as a DSLR. As some one who really is in the field, iPads are a huge money saver compared to something like a Deneke timecode slate. Of course you still have to deal with glare on outdoor scenes.

cute
now how about a few commercial featuring foreign languages and older folks using this new fangled gizmo
this is one gadget that old folks could find usefull

Real surprised United doesn't have app. I just used the American app to fly to Dallas. It was pretty awesome.

Look at that. It was so awesome it left me speechless.
And where are all those flash based, Google Android tablets that are suppose to kick the ipad's a**?
Oh yeah, there ain't none!!!

Eh..a new ad now?

With at least one more new one due on super bowl sunday?

As an investor, I'm a little miffed. iPad 2 commercials are in the editing room already and Apple is still pulling out new ads for iPad 1? I dunno, seems like they overspent.

Sorry if that sounds penny pinching, but it's practical.

Is it? In general, these commercials should be just as effective for the 2 as they are for the 1, and quite honestly, Apple needs to keep the market running at least up to the announcement of the 2. It could be that the Super Bowl commercial will announce the 2--but I won't bet on it. I think a new commercial once a month is pretty good compared to their old Mac vs PC commercials coming out like one ever 4 months or more.

There won't be an iPad 2 ad 'til the iPad 2 comes out.

As an investor, I'd thought you would've known this about Apple by now.

It would be most practical to sell as many iPads as possible before the next iPad is released. And no one exactly knows when that will happen.

The next iPad will do everything the current iPad does. It may do it faster. It may do it better. But it will do it all.

And it may do some new stuff, which Apple can advertise once the new one is released. But certainly not before.

Yeah, because Apple always advertises unreleased products 3-4 months in advance in favor of its current product that is still on the shelf and risk cannibalize all sales of its current product.

Wile were at it, Where's the iPhone 5 commercial? Seems like Apple is dropping the ball and missing a huge opportunity by not advertising future products during the Super Bowl.

Just had to highlight those of you who clearly cannot read. Go back to the original post, and realize the mistake you made.

I do not expect iPad 2 commercials to just show up on TV, before anything is announced/event held. I'm not an idiot.

My point, obviously, was that Apple could be still be running any of the half dozen iPad commercials we've already seen this year. Clearly none of you understand advertising budgets, or you'd know what I'm talking about.

-Apple's iPad ads are fairly current showing newly released apps. That means they only recently ordered, paid for, and completed these ads.

-Apple is also already working on the first two tv ads for iPad 2. Meaning they've already begun to spend money on this.

-Apple could easily sell out remaining iPad inventory before the March announcement/April launch, without running any NEW ads.

-Apple undoubtedly has a new iPad 1 commercial set to air during the super bowl and for many days after.

The local Best Buy sales guy tried to talk a friend out of buying an iPad and told them the new HP tablet running Android would be out soon. He also went on to to tell them the iPad sucks because of no Flash and the HP would have flash. Some people have no clue...

I never buy 1st generation products from Apple, as they generally have the most problems and tend to become obsolete rather quickly.

Yeah, I've had so much trouble with my iPad, 1st gen iPod Touch, 12" PowerBook, iBook, TiBook, B&W G3, ... (Not counting all of the non-1st gen Apple products I have/had.)

Oh. Wait. None of them were troublesome at all. In fact, other than one daughter's Performa 6300CD, none have required trips to service other than one or two caused by impacts/accidents. One iPod had a drive die; replaced by my son in about 20 minutes after getting the replacement drive.

As far as I know, all since the iBook SE are in daily use today by me or someone I know who got the hand downs.

It's a cautious approach advocated by JackAxe, but maybe a bit more paranoid than necessary.
