Or, it could just mean that the MBP announcements are coming next week.
I predict the WWDC will be reserved for iMac and iPhone info.
iMac? No way. It's a developer conference - why would they devote ANY time to a consumer line?

That pretty much means no Santa Rosa for the Mac mini. So everyone that waited for that will need to buy an iMac or wait a year longer.
How lame is it that the rest of the manufacturers
update their lineup with updated hardware regardless of the diffrence in specs.
But apple doesnt and charge the same price?
I doubt that given its WWDC = World Wide DEVELOPERS Conference and hence this is where Pro Lines feat!
Apple simply don't have Santa Rosa drivers yet, and you're not going to see hardware with it until they do. Which sucks, but, well.
Yup thats exactly what apple is saying to its fan base with this update.

The Macbook is no pro computer, therefore the update (with lower prices) seems ok to me, and makes the MacBook Pro seem even more hardcore when it comes out in june (or sooner). The people that want a MacBook are not supposed to want to play WOW on it or have the fastest CPU available. Its a computer for girls and students that want a nice looking computer to surf, chat, get email and write Word documents on. Everybody else should go with the MBP IMHO. It seems obvious to me that the updated MB would use higher CPU speeds from the "old" C2D line of CPUs, and the MBP will gain the SR 2.2 and 2.4Ghz C2D chips to stand out as the Pro computer it is.
If the MBP update coming soon does not have SR or LED I don't know what to do, I just sold my old PowerBook G4![]()
Yooou sexist bastid. How dare you slander women of the world by suggesting they'd all prefer GMA 950 to AMD X1600!
Women want MacBook Pro's too.![]()
I never get all the voted negatives when Apple updates their line.
Because the whiners want the latest greatest chipset, the cheapest prices, the best monitors, the thinnest computers, the latest optical drive, and the most ram possible, in EVERY update.
So, what DO you want to do with the computer that GMA950 is preventing you from doing? Gaming? X3100 would still be too slow for that. Or is this simply a case of "I want NEW technology in my laptop!"?
I'm still using Mac Mini with Radeon 9200 and that's even LESS future-proof than GMA950 is.
The Dutch Apple site hasn't yet updated their Main Page. It might just be the case because the Dutch site is always slower, but I'm now just looking at everything that could possible mean MacBook Pro updates later today..!
People want a MBP computer in a MB. It's NOT gonna happen folks.

The only plus I can see out of this is that the base macbook (2.0/1GB/80GB HD) is now $999 at my edu store. Which is a hell of a deal.

Isn't that the point of a update?
Honestly, the MB is DEFINITELY not a crippled machine, nor just for "surfing, chatting, getting email and writing Word docs." For instance, the Adobe suite (web and design) doesn't benefit from the dedicated video card of the MBP, so the MBP only offers a bigger screen and really nothing else for these users. I'd rather have a MB + a big external monitor than a lonely MBP.The Macbook is no pro computer, therefore the update (with lower prices) seems ok to me, and makes the MacBook Pro seem even more hardcore when it comes out in june (or sooner).
