That pretty much means no Santa Rosa for the Mac mini. So everyone that waited for that will need to buy an iMac or wait a year longer.

Apple simply don't have Santa Rosa drivers yet, and you're not going to see hardware with it until they do. Which sucks, but, well.

How lame is it that the rest of the manufacturers
update their lineup with updated hardware regardless of the diffrence in specs.

But apple doesnt and charge the same price?

I know. The laptop that cost $1099 yesterday today has an extra 512MB of RAM, 170MHz additional processing speed and 20GB more HDD space for the same freaking price.

Lame.

I doubt that given its WWDC = World Wide DEVELOPERS Conference and hence this is where Pro Lines feat!

I am so sick of hearing this. Can we just assume people know what WWDC stands for and that they take that into consideration when making such a prediction?

They have had forever to develop drivers I don't think this could be true.

The Macbook is no pro computer, therefore the update (with lower prices) seems ok to me, and makes the MacBook Pro seem even more hardcore when it comes out in june (or sooner). The people that want a MacBook are not supposed to want to play WOW on it or have the fastest CPU available. Its a computer for girls and students that want a nice looking computer to surf, chat, get email and write Word documents on. Everybody else should go with the MBP IMHO. It seems obvious to me that the updated MB would use higher CPU speeds from the "old" C2D line of CPUs, and the MBP will gain the SR 2.2 and 2.4Ghz C2D chips to stand out as the Pro computer it is.

If the MBP update coming soon does not have SR or LED I don't know what to do, I just sold my old PowerBook G4 :)

Yooou sexist bastid. How dare you slander women of the world by suggesting they'd all prefer GMA 950 to ATI X1600!

Women want MacBook Pro's too.

this is now the third time i've said this in the last half hour *cries*

the only difference between the top macbook and the superdrive 17 inch imac is a dedicated graphics card in the imac

the top macbook actually now has a bigger hard drive and faster superdrive than the entry macbook pro, which again, only has a dedicated graphics card over the macbook.

updates can't be far away for the imac and macbook pro, especially given that there's now a difference of AUD$1000 between the top macbook and the bottom macbook pro.

i sell these for a living, and selling macbook pros got a whole lot harder with this update.

I never get all the voted negatives when Apple updates their line.

Because the whiners want the latest greatest chipset, the cheapest prices, the best monitors, the thinnest computers, the latest optical drive, and the most ram possible, in EVERY update.

The Dutch Apple site hasn't yet updated their Main Page. It might just be the case because the Dutch site is always slower, but I'm now just looking at everything that could possible mean MacBook Pro updates later today..!

Why does everyone think World of Warcraft won't play on the MacBooks?

I played 3 characters up into the 60's using a G4 iBook.

No, you're not going to get stunning graphics and incredible framerate from the MacBook- but the game will most definitely be enjoyable and playable.

So, what DO you want to do with the computer that GMA950 is preventing you from doing? Gaming? X3100 would still be too slow for that. Or is this simply a case of "I want NEW technology in my laptop!"?

I'm still using Mac Mini with Radeon 9200 and that's even LESS future-proof than GMA950 is.

The ONLY thing that I'm stuck on is the ability to run X-plane 8.50-ish. This is fantastically important to me.....it's a job thing. Running X-plane allows me to pre-fly IFR stuff and practice breakout/missed proceedures. I need it running smoothly enough to be useful otherwise the purchase is wasted. Further, if it allows me to install the scenery packs, well, that improves the value of the laptop to me by leaps and bounds.

What I'm not willing to do though is pay a $1000 premium to be able to run X-plane when a wintel/AMD machine can do it (running Linux hopefully) for less.

Not happening, dude. Wait 'till next Tuesday. Or the Tuesday after that. Or the Tuesday after that...

:(

People want a MBP computer in a MB. It's NOT gonna happen folks.

No, we don't like paying full price for a year old model when it was released AFTER everyone else updated their notebooks to SR. People kinda get mad when their premium computer maker pulls out bargain basement tactics.

Hey, an update is an update. Better than no news or updates at all. I agree with you though, some people want everything and more.

Was anyone expecting Mini to get SR? Mini has traditionally trailed MacBook in the specs-department. So in the next update, Mini will probably get 1.83 and 2GHz C2D's.

The only plus I can see out of this is that the base macbook (2.0/1GB/80GB HD) is now $999 at my edu store. Which is a hell of a deal.

Yeah, but with that lame combo drive. I'm a potential switcher but I ain't switching to this outdated crap. I'll wait for Leopard.

Celebrate good times! Come on! :D

So the.... new MBPs on the way soon? I get a feelin that the MB get theold stock of MBP processors while MBPs get SR. Boo Yah!

Or perhaps, like me, they're looking to have something with a bit of graphics oomph on their desk and want something stylish looking and very portable to take out when visiting clients - if you're displaying PDFs or finished CG renders, you don't need the processor horsepower associated with graphics creation.

The order I just placed was very consciously for a non-pro laptop and the best desktop system I could afford.

See? Whenever you generalize, you always come a cropper!:p

Cheers!

Honestly, the MB is DEFINITELY not a crippled machine, nor just for "surfing, chatting, getting email and writing Word docs." For instance, the Adobe suite (web and design) doesn't benefit from the dedicated video card of the MBP, so the MBP only offers a bigger screen and really nothing else for these users. I'd rather have a MB + a big external monitor than a lonely MBP.
