After a quick check on the UK store. I managed to get on. The "normal" MacBook link showed "From £749" while the new advert showed "from £699".

The config pages showed from £699, then I clicked back and store went down again.....

Good point; price check anybody:

Going down again maybe...

I was sort of excited to see the MBPs updated today, but then I realized I dont have the $$$ to buy it yet :p The speedbump is really good news for MBP buyers, stop crying and mark your calenders!

How lame is it that the rest of the manufacturers
update their lineup with updated hardware regardless of the diffrence in specs.
But apple doesnt and charge the same price?

Yes there is no major diffrence in SR compared to MEROM
BUT COME ON get serious already if its out there and your the supplier why dont you just give it to the people insteasd of banking on old hardware at current hardware prices?

jeez apple

Could you post some links to the laptops from other vendors you are talking about for comparative purposes?

Well, I'm not reading through 14 pages, so I'm sorry if this has been said: but all those waiting/hoping for new MBPs should be THRILLED with this announcement today. Why? Because there is absolutely NO way that Apple is going to leave the line like this for very long (a bigger HD standard in the blackbook than in the base MBP? and a faster superdrive?), so we know new ones are on the way. Also, because they didn't just update the whole line today indicates to me that WWDC is going to be bringing some exciting announcements for the MBP line - which Steve is going to want to uncover himself.

I think we can get an idea of the kind of update the Mac Mini will receive by these latest MacBook upgrades.

Or, it could just mean that the MBP announcements are coming next week.

I predict the WWDC will be reserved for iMac and iPhone info.

That's some serious jump in price from the SD MB (£829) to the lowest MBP (£1349) :

price comparison.

Really worth an extra £520?

Hoping the MBPs are updated soon, and with a decent price drop.

The Macbook is no pro computer, therefore the update (with lower prices) seems ok to me, and makes the MacBook Pro seem even more hardcore when it comes out in june (or sooner). The people that want a MacBook are not supposed to want to play WOW on it or have the fastest CPU available. Its a computer for girls and students that want a nice looking computer to surf, chat, get email and write Word documents on. Everybody else should go with the MBP IMHO. It seems obvious to me that the updated MB would use higher CPU speeds from the "old" C2D line of CPUs, and the MBP will gain the SR 2.2 and 2.4Ghz C2D chips to stand out as the Pro computer it is.

If the MBP update coming soon does not have SR or LED I don't know what to do, I just sold my old PowerBook G4 :)

no, its like buying a left hand drive instead of a right hand drive!

Where the left hand drive has all the extras, A/C, ABS, high quality leather seats and all that, and the right hand drive has go faster stripes, leopardskin seat covers, and a backseat full of screaming children.

But but but I don't WANT to wait that long *pouts*

*Talking to myself*
"kingofkolt, do you have a choice?"
"Yes, I could buy a MBP now."
"But then, wouldn't Apple release a new MBP a day later with a better GPU and SR and LED backlighting?"
"Yes."
"kingofkolt, do you have a choice?"
"No."

So, what DO you want to do with the computer that GMA950 is preventing you from doing? Gaming? X3100 would still be too slow for that. Or is this simply a case of "I want NEW technology in my laptop!"?

I'm still using Mac Mini with Radeon 9200 and that's even LESS future-proof than GMA950 is.

I'm looking forward to the new iChat in Leopard, and the requirements will be pretty steep for multi-conferencing. I'd like to know that my MacBook will be able to handle hi-res video chats with my friends and family when I go back to school.

To think that Apple could ramp up to a new chipset in just one week this time around was unrealistic wishful thinking to say the absolute least.

The "one week" quote is the unrealistic part.

Intel sends samples out to customers long before the press conference that marks the "introduction" of a part. Volume shipments start many weeks before the press conference. How do you think that HP and Lenovo and Dell have kit to sell on announcement day?

I was playing with a couple of Penryn systems last night. They're here and real, even though they are half a year from volume shipment.

Apple could have shipped SR laptops last week, but instead there is this strange, minor update.

I agree:cool: MBP will have probaly more significant update.

Just out of curiosity, was the BlackBook HD smaller than 160GB before the update? I don't remember...

EDIT: Nevermind, just looked at where it said "bigger HD's in every model"

The only plus I can see out of this is that the base macbook (2.0/1GB/80GB HD) is now $999 at my edu store. Which is a hell of a deal.

Cmon Steve, I thought 2007 was gonna be better than any other year. Lame...
It is. Seen the stockprice lately? Except for the low-end Macbook not having a DVD burner, this doesn't seem bad to me. I never get all the voted negatives when Apple updates their line. A lot of people want everything included while still paying a low price. A lot of people here just need to get realistic. Apple is a for-profit, public company and ensures they are able to maintain their profit margins.
