Wonder!!

I wonder how long it will actually take to get fron China to the US then to Louisiana.

I am hoping that it takes 5 days...though it will probably take a full 7 or 8.

Anyone in Singapore received their new PB?

Anyone in Singapore received their new PB? I ordered my 17" on Feb 2 from AppleCentre Orchard and still no word... :(

Still in China

Just checked the FedEx tracking number and it has been picked up, but is still in China. (It has been sitting there for 3 day now)

You don't suppose that they are still "hung over" from the Chinese New Year?

Ooooh!

They just added this to the tracking page:

Tracking number 7XXXXXXXXXXX
Ship date Feb 15, 2005
Estimated delivery date Feb 18, 2005 by 4:30 pm

Reference number 3XXXXXXXXX Delivery location FLORIEN LA Service type IP Direct Distribution

That's not tomorrow, but it is the day after! :) :) :D

Friday

Let's see...I need to:

1. Get home early from work
2. Make sure I have plenty of Diet Coke on hand
3. Have my brand new copy of iWork handy so I can install it.
4. Unplug my phone so I wont be bothered
and the list goes on and on

Yep, stock order 12'' SD. Oh yeah OSX blows away XP. :D

They're taunting me

Ordered my 15" pb on the 12th. Expected ship on or before the 24th.

Today they sent me an email telling me all about how life is easier with a Mac, and how I should order one from the Apple store...

How in the world can they deliver by 4:30 Friday afternoon when Wednesday afternoon it is still in China.

C'mon Apple just tell me Monday or Tuesday to begin with.

PS: I will be glad to get my PowerBook so I can accomplish more useful things other than posting to Macrumors and checking the delivery status.

My laptop left China on Sunday Feb. 6th and arrived at my house on Tuesday Feb. 8th. I bet it arrives by the time FedEx is telling you on their site!

It seems as if you are right.

I just checked the order status page and it arrived in Indianapolis at 1:13 a.m. So it should have no problem reaching LA by 4:30 tom.

I certainly hope that you will have time for your significant other. You will also need time for sustenance and when mother nature calls. Some rest breaks and sleep is also important, being alert will make you much more productive.

Enjoy! :D :D

g5 powerbook

Everyone is always speculating G5 pBook releases and what not. Check monster.com and hotjobs.com Apple has over 125 job openings!! But the ones that really caught my attention where the Thermal engineers and electrical engineers. Basiclly stating we need you to cram one of the hottest chips produced right now into a 3/4" think peace of whatever there next powerbook will be made out of. 2005 is probally a realistic date, but I would crap myself if they cranked out a properly tested notebook by the time tiger is released. Don't you guys want something that is tested for a good 3 - 6 months first? Once it is developed real rumors will start, then expect a good delay for testing to get the kinks out. And rest assured that Apple will blow us away with the new powerbooks, finally a notebook from apple that is truley on par with a pentium m!!!

Theres my 2 cents

Dang

I thought for sure that by now it would be in Natchitoches, LA. I mean it leaft Memphis over 12 hours ago.

Maybe the truck broke down, maybe the driver got lost, maybe this isn't the 18th only the 17th, maybe I never even ordered a Powerbook.

Uhhhh! this driving me crazy!

Finally Here

Well its finally here.

First thing I did was install all of the updates and then load iWork, try to install my networked Okidata C5200n printer (no luck), got airport extreme working and finally come to macrumors and make this post.

I am currently "conditioning" the battery however I have been using on the charge that it comes with for about 2 hours now and still have 22 minutes left.

Oh I can tell you right now that this blows Windows XP away...I mean away.

And it is somuch sexier than a wintop.

I have had no problem with the trackpad, no problem with airport working with a Linksys router, no problems at all so far. (except for getting my Okidata to work. But I will figure this out pretty soon.) :D

I'm glad to hear everyone's starting to get their PowerBooks. I've been having great fun this week.

Would any of you post how many wheel spins you new PowerBook takes on startup? I was initially concerned, since my old 600MHz iBook would boot up in 15 spins, or so, but my new PowerBook is taking 25-26 spins.

After comparing the system.logs in each, I found a huge 9 second delay when the PowerBook loaded its HCIController stuff. The System Profiler indicated that was the Bluetooth stuff.

So, I guess the slower startup is attributed to Bluetooth doing a discovery before the login screen comes up. That would make sense for anyone using a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, I suppose. But I turn my Bluetooth off to save about 30 minutes of charge per cycle when I'm not synching my Phone. Minor stuff, I but I just wondered.

Once I've logged in everything is extremely satisfying to use. Have some fun now that your wait it over!

No problem, but can you define your test for me so I can perform it the same way? BTW I have my Bluetooth option off, I wonder whether the same delay will present itself for me. Probably will, seeing as at boot stage it is discovering the hardware available...

I got my new 12" Powerbook two days ago and I'm very happy with it so far. It arrived 13 days after I placed the order at Apple web store.

Compared to my previous laptop (iBook G4 12" 800 MHz) the PB feels very fast. I don't know if the screen is actually supposed to be different, but this one is sharper. No dead pixels either this time. The fan turns on sometimes but it isn't too noisy. If I remember correctly, the iBook had a noisier fan, though it rarely was blowing. The PB gets a little warm in heavy use, but definitely not too hot to touch or anything like that. Wireless reception was OK when I tried it at the university. The signal strength was usually 3/4. My neighbors connection seems to work also ;-) . I like the scrolling trackpad feature, it works really well and was easy to figure out. The only flaw I've noticed was that iTunes got very slow when I scrolled horizontally. That must be a software problem and will probably be fixed later.

Battery

Ok I have conditioned the battery according to Apple's specs and I have been getting a little over 3 hours per charge.

I have been working with Pages and Safari and iTunes simultaneously. When I plug my usb printer in the time goes down dramatically but when I unplug it it goes way up again.

So far Happy doesn't even begin to explain.
